Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters II: Dark Duel Stories is not to be confused with Yu-Gi-Oh! Dark Duel Stories, which is a different game known as Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters III: Tri-Holy God Advent in Japan.

Debug Menus

Using the Game Genie codes 082-93B-F72 072-A6B-F7E, or by changing 0x10293 to 08 and 0x102A6 to 07 in the ROM, the player can access two hidden debug menus. To access these two, the player must move the cursor below "Password".

Sound Test

Music goes from 1 to 19, while sound goes from 21 to 38. The only controls are A to play a song, and B to exit back to the menu.

Character Animation and Screen Viewer

View all of the opponents' cutscene animations and screens in the game, which can be viewed by pressing A. The following indexes are valid. Anything else crashes the game. No matter who is selected, Weevil's intro dialogue is loaded.

Debug New Game

Using the Game Genie codes 00C-04B-5D4 01B-DFB-E6A, or by changing 0x10BDF to 01 and 0x10C04 to 00 in the ROM, debug features are available when starting a new game:

  • Deck Capacity is set at 9999.
  • Duelist Level is set at 255.
  • You get 200 copies of every card.
  • 9 wins against every opponent.
  • Grandpa gives a card after each duel.

This string, present at 0x10C64 is written to the save file upon creation. When loading a save file, the game looks for the string to determine if save data exists.
