Before I go adding it nilly willy to the wiki page, is this particular graphic used? I know it's not used in Exercise mode, but I don't know if it's in Gear to Gear (read:2 Player) mode. --From: divingkataetheweirdo (talk) 23:07, 10 July 2015 (EDT)

Error Screen removal?

Why was the error screen on this page and the GG Puyo Puyo page removed? Similar error screens that are not actually unused are featured on the pages for other games, like Donkey Kong Country 3 and Yoshi's Island, so even if the one here (and on the Puyo Puyo page) is not actually unused, it should still be documented? - Geno2925 (talk) 17:25, 1 May 2022 (UTC)

Because it isn't unused. "This is used when disconnecting the link cable during a match" Granted, it's not something many players would do (or did), but still doesn't count as unused. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 17:30, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
You responded to my initial question while completely ignoring my further reasoning for questioning the change. The error screens in Yoshi's Island aren't unused, they're used when the game is booted up with the wrong controller inserted into the console. All those anti-piracy screens that TCRF covers across many games aren't unused, they're used when the game is played while on a copier or other similar devices (or on poorly-duplicated ROMs). These link cable messages, which only appear when messing with specific hardware on the original console, and are impossible to see on emulated re-releases and the like, are basically the same as the controller error screens in games like Yoshi's Island which ARE covered by TCRF. They oughta be considered "hidden content", which the site seems to consider generally okay to be covered as well. Otherwise, have fun finding and removing all of such error screens from other game pages. - Geno2925 (talk) 17:37, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
Good point. I've reverted Kak64's edits for now. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 17:47, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
One note about the menu in both Puyo Puyo and Mean Bean Machine: due to how it was programmed, any invalid entry loads 2P VS mode. This can be verified if you try it on the Master System version of the game, which has no error screen since there's no link cable on a Master System, so 2P VS mode is always accessible. --Kak64 (talk) 22:51, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
I think the error screen should be removed. Error screens like it are found in pretty much any handheld game with a link-up feature and can easily be seen without modifying the game. Ferrox (talk) 20:43, 2 May 2022 (UTC)
Oh sure they can be "easily seen". You just need to be playing on original hardware with two Game Gear consoles, two copies of the game, and a link cable. Not everybody has all of those nowadays, and in official re-releases like the 3DS VC, there's no way to see these error messages at all. And I'll re-iterate my point, that TCRF already covers stuff like the "wrong controller" error screen in Yoshi's Island, or the various error and anti-piracy screens in the Donkey Kong Country trilogy, which all aren't actually "unused" either, so I don't see why these unique Game Gear error screens are any different from those. Heck, TCRF also extensively covers regional differences between multiple different language releases of games, and those things aren't even remotely "unused" OR "hidden"! I think these GG error screens should be covered by the site, as they're "hidden content" that is used, but incredibly obscure, like anti-piracy screens and things like that. The MBM and Puyo Puyo GG error screens also have entirely unique graphics that are used nowhere else in their respective games, making them much more interesting than something like just a simple screen-with-text that some of the other error screens from other games that TCRF DOES already cover are.
There's also the fact that the MBM error screen took 29 YEARS to be rediscovered and properly documented online. That sure doesn't scream "can easily be seen" if nobody even knew it was a thing until now. - Geno2925 (talk) 06:55, 3 May 2022 (UTC)

Unused SFX?

This is something I've wondered about for, I dunno… probably like, 7 or 8 years by now? The "Effect" section of the Sound Test menu has some odd sound effects that don't seem to be used anywhere in the game, at least to my knowledge (I don't know the Game Gear version front-to-back and I'm not all that good with puzzle games, so I don't know if they happen to be used or not). My query stems from how they're excessively long and drawn out compared to the sounds that are used in-game, whether or not they're supposed to sound like that, or if they're removed leftovers from Puyo Puyo. Should they be at all covered on the TCRF page if they truly aren't just corrupt garbage data, I feel at least that should be up in the air. --Nunof Yerbizness (talk) 10:38, 20 August 2022 (UTC)
