I friend of mine was in Japan during the holidays, and found a flea market selling a used GameCube along with a disc without a sticker and a pack of Super Smash Bros. themed E-Reader Plus cards. He bought it for $150.

The seller said he worked at a hotel about ten years ago when Nintendo was going to host an event at this hotel, which would show off the Nintendo DS, Star Fox, Zelda, and other new games. The Bonus Disc (most likely a prototype) and a single pack of E-Fighter cards (also in early stages) were given to the hotel by Nintendo so they could see a sample of what Nintendo was to show. Nintendo ultimately cancelled the event, but never asked for what they sent to the hotel to be returned.

The Bonus Disc contains a preview video of upcoming games and the option to scan your E-Fighter cards to unlock a new character, which would be saved as data on a Memory Card. The character revealed by the Bonus Disc is Leon S. Kennedy from the Resident Evil series.

However, it seems that the true purpose of the disc and cards is not functional, and that these are lazily programmed promotional versions. There are around five other E-Fighter card packs or Bonus Discs out there, but it is unknown if Nintendo ever completed this expansion to Super Smash Bros. Melee.
