So very stubbly.
This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?
Hmmm...
To do:
  • Title screen and version differences.
  • Unused moves/animations, including Lesnar's entrance motion and Hogan's signature leg drop (seemingly originating from previous games).
  • Does contents of this page apply to PS3 and Xbox 360 versions too?
  • Compare console differences, from the PS2, Wii, And PSP versions of the game.
  • Document the June 2, 2010 prototype build.

WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2011 is the last game in the series to use the SmackDown vs. Raw name and the last mainline WWE game for PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable.

Cut Superstars

Four characters were removed from the game very late in development. Tommy Dreamer and Carlito were both removed due to their departures from the WWE. It is not known why The Great Khali and The Hurricane were removed. Carlito and Hurricane appears to be complete, however, and can be played (see below). In spite of their removal, Carlito, Khali, and Dreamer are all referenced in the final version of the game, with their names appearing sporadically on a whiteboard backstage in Road to WrestleMania mode, and they can be chosen as characters in Story Designer. Several of the others are characters that appeared in the previous title, WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010, that did not return in this installment.

Additionally, the names of various wrestlers not present in the game are grouped in with the Create an Entrance mode's data. Note that while some of these superstars have their entrances coded in the game, they aren't explicitly labelled with their names (using "superstar", "generic", "legend" labels):

JBL
JEFF HARDY
THE GREAT KHALI

TOMMY DREAMER

Hurricane's Music and Titantron Video

In spite of his removal, Hurricane still appears as a character in Rey Mysterio's Road to WrestleMania story line, meaning his character model is still on the game's disc. Even though he is not a normally selectable character, he is complete, and even has his own entrance music and TitanTron video, which are not seen in any game mode. Not only is it possible to use the character through hacking, but the music and video can be assigned to other characters through the same method. Strangely, the TitanTron video is the same one as used in WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2006 and not the updated 2010 version.

Carlito

Carlito was intended to be featured as a playable superstar, but was removed following his WWE departure. His character model remains on the game's disc and can be accessed via hacking. It should be noted that the model is the same one used for WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010.

Unused Entrance Videos

On the PlayStation 2 game's disc, TitanTron videos for Chris Masters and Bret Hart exist. Bret Hart was going to be available as an unlockable character, but then the decision was made to make him a downloadable content character instead. Downloadable content is not available for the PS2 console. Chris Masters was always intended to be a DLC character, so it is unknown why his entrance video remains on the game's disc. It should be noted that Masters' video is the most recent version, while Hart's was the version made for the first WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw game.

Version Differences

The previous-generation and the Wii versions of the game uses the engine from WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009, with the Wii version running in a slightly higher resolution than the PlayStation 2 version, while the PSP version running in a lower resolution with more blocky models. The Wii and PSP versions are the only versions that are in a 16:9 ratio, with the PlayStation 2 version running in a 4:3 ratio instead.

Additionally, the previous-generation versions lack the following features:

  • Logo Paint Tool
  • Community Creations
  • Online (except on PSP for its ad-hoc network feature)
  • Training mode on the title screen
  • Highlight reels
  • Downloadable content

These versions also have the following changes:

  • Road To WrestleMania's car cutscene is not in the game, and instead uses the loading screen for when the game is loading.
  • The renders of wrestlers from the next-generation versions are used, instead of making them 3D models.
  • Show videos are not shown when you start a match.
  • The WWE logo when the match starts has a completely different sound effect, unique to these versions.
  • The CAWs use a placeholder picture in the selection and pre-match screens, instead of being a 3D model.
  • Because it uses the engine of WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009, the Create A Superstar creation suite is also based off that game.

For the PSP version, the additional changes below also apply:

  • There is a 16 layer limit for Create A Superstar, although it can be turned back to 32 via external cheats.
  • The character models are more blocky, as the polygon count for the models have been reduced for the PSP hardware to run the game properly.
  • No alternate camera angles are present while you are out of the ring.
  • Various sound changes, many of which is due to disc-space limitations.
    • In-match commentary has been removed, as a result of this the in-game soundtrack gets played in-game instead.
    • The same also goes for the grunts the superstars and divas make.
    • The sound quality is much lower.
    • The crowd noises are reused from WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010
  • Match Creator is moved to the menu chosen after one of the existing match types is selected.
