Early Versions

The following maps are earlier versions of used pre-renders.

Know-It-All Brothers' House

K_HOME

This is an earlier pre-render of the Know-It-All Brothers' House, located in data\shape2\zelda_scene\K_Home.bak. It reveals that the whole layout of this room was mirrored later during development and some other minor differences, including an additional table.

The "Set Message Test" portion of z_actor.c refers to this map as though it is still part of the game, indicating that this section of code dates from a time before it was removed.

Kokiri Shop

KOKIRI.bak

An earlier version of the Kokiri Shop render, found in z_ocarina\data\shape2\zelda_scene\Kokiri.bak. Its minor differences from the final pre-render include the counter being slightly higher and the lack of a stool.

Back Alley - Day

Files in zelda_tool_scene grace us with alternate pre-renders of the Back Alley.

Back Alley 1

A subtle difference: the far-left building corner had a wooden panel wrap to the other side.

Back Alley 2

This doesn't have the famous lamp post from pre-release screenshots, but it does have a bundle of wood on the left to compensateǃ

Back Alley 3

A door lies at the far back, and there is no tree across from the messenger guard. The angle of the alley also differs.

Temple of Time Exterior

An early background render of the Temple of Time exterior area, with several differences compared to the final version. The whole area seems to be more open, the stairs leading up to the area are oriented sideways, and trees are located in front of the building, with dirt paths going around to both sides.

Note that there is no sign of the Triforce above the entrance.

CHAPEL

This pre-render, labeled "Castle Town Church", is commented out in the spec.segment file. It includes vr_CHVR_static and vr_CHVR_pal_static.

As seen at right, this version of the background render first appeared in a pre-release screenshot in April, 1998.

FAY

OoT-Prerender Temple May 97.png

A pre-rendered background image of what may be an early iteration of the Temple of Time interior. The geometry of the columns, torches, and pedestal are similar to an earlier pre-render often referred to as the "Hall of Time".

GARDEN

This pre-render, labeled "Inner Castle Garden", is commented out in the spec.segment file. It includes vr_GVR_static and vr_GVR_pal_static.

It's an early rendition of the area that would become Zelda's Courtyard.
