9th February, 2022 - Salmon Run Trailer

Trailer Details

The third trailer for Splatoon 3 was entirely dedicated to the Salmon Run: Next Wave gamemode. It featured looks at new stages and new Salmonids, alongside various mechanics new to Splatoon 3. Multiple things were revealed, such as:

  • The new Egg Throw mechanic.
  • 2 new Boss Salmonids, the Fish Stick and the Flipper-Flopper.
  • Sockeye Station, one of the new stages added to the game.
  • A vague look at the new King Salmonid mechanic, represented by Cohozuna moving in the waters off the shore of Sockeye Station.
  • A Summer 2022 release date, shown at the very end of the trailer.

Differences and Oddities

  • The version of Sockeye Station in the trailer is an early version, which has a near-final layout but sports various differences visually from the final. Due to the small timeframe between this trailer and the creation date of Version 1.0.0, this version of Sockeye Station can be played in-game with that version.
  • The animation seen around 0:40 in where the player looks at the Fish Stick was left in the final game, under the name PV03_Shoot_Shtr.
  • The Splat Roller's 2D icon in the UI is tilted towards the left instead of the right like the final game.
  • The Splattershot's icon seems to be using a slightly modified color set compared to the final game, being more saturated.
  • The Flipper-Flopper instantly enters its flopping animation when it lands after its circle is filled in. The final game adds a new animation of it slamming into the ground first.
  • When the Flipper-Flopper is splatted, the Golden Eggs that come out do a shining animation that differs slightly from the final game.
  • The player's facial expression does not change when "Booyah!"-ing.
