Prerelease: Mario Kart DS:

This page details prerelease information and/or media for Mario Kart DS.

Mario Kart DS was changed many times in development. It was first announced at E3 2004 as a very rough draft with no voice clips, music, and only one course: GCN Yoshi Circuit.

The game was next shown off at E3 2005, which was still far from the final. The game had voice clips, music, and many courses, but the speedometer was removed. It also has many HUD differences. The Mario Kart DS kiosk demo is the E3 2005 build. Trailer

After E3 2005, Nintendo planned to make the retro cups named SNES Cup, N64 Cup, GBA Cup and GCN Cup. Each cup would contain 4 courses from that game. Mario Kart DS was also a part of DS Download Station vol. 1 using a build very close to the final.
