Hmmm...
To do:
  • There's still more to document.
  • A few sprite sheets are both in PNG and PVR formats in some versions. While the PVRs are used in the game, the PNGs usually aren't and may contain early graphics in them. Document anything different between both versions of the sprite sheets.

This is a sub-page of Angry Birds (iOS).

From cities and valleys, to caves and facelifts...

Birds

Cheer Sprites

AB iOS Unused BirdCheering Sprites.png

Sprites of Red, The Blues, Chuck, Bomb, Matilda, Hal, and Terence cheering that were left in the spritesheets of versions 4.3.5 and onwards. While it's unknown what these would've really been used for, it's possible these sprites could've been used for when a player completes a level. Some code in blocks.lua calls these sprites for a "spriteBurp" variable for some strange reason.

Red

AB iOS 3.3.0 RMF RedBirdAngry.png AB iOS 3.3.0 RMF RedBirdWet.png

Two sprites of Red found in the sprite sheet "INGAME_SEING_RED_CHARACTER" in v3.3.0. The first sprite seems to be based on how Red looked in the old app icon to the game. The second is a sprite of Red completely drenched in water.

Pigs

Scuba Diver Pigs

AB iOS 3.3.0 RMF ScubaDivingPig Med.png

AB iOS 3.3.0 RMF ScubaDivingPig Small.png

Minion Pigs wearing scuba-diving gear, both in medium and small sizes, found in v3.3.0's "INGAME_SEING_RED_OBJECTS" sheet. Strangely, the sprite names for these pigs seem to have been swapped, with the small pig being labeled as "SCUBA_DIVING_PIG_MED" and vise-versa.

Snorkel Pigs

AB iOS 3.3.0 RMF SnorklingPig Small.png

AB iOS 3.3.0 RMF SnorklingPig Med.png

AB iOS 3.3.0 RMF SnorklingPig Big.png

Minion Pigs wearing snorkelers in a variety of sizes, also found in v3.3.0's "INGAME_SEING_RED_OBJECTS" sheet.

Diving Bell Pigs

AB iOS 3.3.0 RMF DivingBellPig Small.png

AB iOS 3.3.0 RMF DivingBellPig Med.png

AB iOS 3.3.0 RMF DivingBellPig Big.png

Minion Pigs wearing diving bell helmets in a variety of sizes, also found in v3.3.0's "INGAME_SEING_RED_OBJECTS" sheet. Interestingly, the design for these pigs use the older design from earlier versions of the game, rather than the newer designs.

Blocks

Platforms

Version 1.0 Post-1.0
AngryBirds iOS 1.0 Unused EstradeTheater.png AngryBirds iOS Unused EstradeTheater Cropped.png

A platform resembling a theater found in v1.0. In later versions of the game, only a cropped version of this platform remains in the spritesheets for the blocks.

Version 1.0 Post-1.0
AngryBirds iOS 1.0 Unused Estrade04.png AngryBirds iOS Unused Estrade04 Cropped.png

Another platform of some kind found in v1.0. Much like the theater platform, only a cropped version remains in later versions.

Trick Or Treat Blocks

AB iOS 1.4.4 TrickOrTreat PumpkinBlocks.png

AB iOS 1.4.4 TrickOrTreat BlockGhostCostume.png AB iOS 1.4.4 TrickOrTreat BlockLantern.png

Blocks from the Angry Birds Seasons episode, Trick or Treat, found in v1.4.4's "INGAME_BLOCKS_1" sheet.

Presumably left in for when Trick Or Treat was planned to be the fifth episode of Classic, before it was moved over to Seasons (which around the time this update came out, was known as Angry Birds Halloween). These sprites were later removed in v1.5.0.

Friends 2012 Winter Tournament Blocks

AngryBirds iOS 3.0.0 HD WinterTournament BigCap.png AngryBirds iOS 3.0.0 HD WinterTournament TinyCap.png AngryBirds iOS 3.0.0 HD WinterTournament SnowCannon.png AngryBirds iOS 3.0.0 HD WinterTournament Snowball.png AngryBirds iOS 3.0.0 HD WinterTournament Sled.png

Leftover graphics for some blocks intended for the 2012 Winter Tournament in Angry Birds Friends, found in the files of the HD version of 3.0.0. Weirdly, the graphics for the sled and the tiny cap are clipping into each other's sprites, due to how close they are together in the sprite sheet.

Miscellaneous

AngryBirds iOS 1.0 Unused BlockExtraToilet.png

An outhouse found in versions 1.0 - 1.3.4. It was later removed in v1.4.0.

AngryBirds iOS RedandYellowPoles.png

Two poles, colored red and yellow respectively. Strangely, these poles were used in earlier versions of Danger Above 7-2, but were removed from the level in later revisions.

AngryBirds iOS Unused BlockPuzzlePiece.png

A blue puzzle piece. It's unknown what this would've been used for.

Particles

Violet Feathers

AngryBirds iOS Unused VioletFeathers.png

Present in nearly all versions of the game are three unused violet-colored feathers located in the "INGAME_BIRDS_1" spritesheet.

Water Particles

AB iOS 3.3.0 RMF WaterDroplets.png AB iOS 3.3.0 RMF WaterPaddle.png

Some water particles found in the sprite sheet "INGAME_SEING_RED_CHARACTER" in v3.3.0.

Bird Ability Icons

Chuck's ability icon. Matilda's ability icon. Bomb's ability icon. Red's ability icon. A icon of a bird being launched from a slingshot. Not seen in the gameplay trailer. The Blues' ability icon.

Found in the files of v1.0 as well as the in-game trailer for the game are several ability icons, which appear in the bottom right of the screen in-game when a bird has been launched and hasn't used its ability. The icon disappears when the bird hits something or said ability is used.

Rewards

The Big Setup

An early version of the reward you get for beating The Big Setup found in version 1.3.4. This early version has darker shading, and the brim only extends out the front. The final version has lighter shading, and the brim goes around the whole hat.

Scrapped "Free to Play" update

Hmmm...
To do:
This should maybe be moved to its own section on the main page, cause there's a LOT more files for this leftover in versions 4.2.0 and onward.

Update Original (Angry Birds, unused Free to Play graphic).png

A graphic which contained a gameplay image, and other stuff. Unclear how it is assembled.

  • The gameplay image has a barely-visible FPS counter, suggests that it was a build used for testing purposes.
  • On the top-left, there is a Anger Meter, a feature used in the unreleased Free to Play update. Coding and Sprites for the Anger feature exists.
