The FDS Backgammon is an adaptation of the popular board game which was supervised by the Japan Backgammon Association. It also features a song by Dragon Quest composer Koichi Sugiyama, who was also the honorary chairman of the Association.

Level Select
At the main game menu, hold one of the following buttons on Controller 2's D-Pad while selecting "TOURNAMENT" with Controller 1 to skip to the desired portion of Tournament Mode:
- Right: Second Game
- Down: Semi-Final
- Left: Final Game
Cheat Mode
At the "PRESS START" prompt on the Title Screen, enter the following cheat code on Controller 2: A, A, A, Up, Right, B, Down, Up. Press Start to move to the main menu, then enter the following cheat code on Controller 2: Down, Left, Right, Right, B, A, A, Down. There won't be any indication that the Cheat Mode has been activated if you've done it right, but the following commands should now be accessible:
Soft Reset
During any game mode other than Demonstration, press A + B + Up + Left on Controller 2 to perform a Soft Reset.
CPU Controlled Player
At the main menu, put your cursor over any mode other than "DEMONSTRATION", hold Left on Controller 1, then press either A or Start.. The player will now be controlled by the CPU!
Toggle CPU Control
During a game, when any player ends its turn by taking their dice off the table, hold Left on either controller until it switches to that side's turn, to toggle CPU control of that side.
Dice Value Editor
During a game, before a human player throws a dice, press Right + Down + A to invoke the Dice Value Editor. There's no indicator, but the dice values default to 6:6. Press Right to increment the first dice (wrapping back around to 1 as appropriate), Down to increment the second dice, or Left to increment both. Press A or B to exit the dice editor. Now the dice will always have the specified values!
Field & Dice Editor
During the game, before the dice is thrown, hold Left + Up on Controller 1 to switch to Edit Mode. Press Left or Right to choose game field. Hold A or B (for white or red stones respectively) and press Down or Up to remove or add stones to the field. While holding A or B, press Left or Right to change the corresponding Dice value. Press Start to continue the game.
Skip to the Ending
At the main menu, put your cursor on "TOURNAMENT", hold A on controller 2, then press A or Start on Controller 1 to jump straight to the ending.
Secret Credits
At the ending screen, after the stamping animation is complete, wait for exactly three minutes. Then, hold Left + Down + Select + A on Controller 1 and Right + B + A on Controller 2. The code won't work after 30 seconds, and any incorrect input will return the player to the title screen.
