AND YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE GOING TO SUMMER CAMP? Well, NO!. This is a COMBAT SCHOOL! Where you have to face seven events before you can graduate, chums!

Hmmm...
To do:
  • Add and compare the sound effects and some game screens between the Japanese and International versions

Regional Differences

Title Screen

Other than the title change, Combat School shows a golden colored logo with a magenta and cobalt blue engraved with four golden stars banner. While Boot Camp shows a blue-colored logo with a magenta and dark blue engraved with four golden stars banner. Also the Boot Camp title was made in one line to fit the screen borders.

Name Timing

In Combat School, when the player finishes or fails one of the running events, the instructor immediately says the name of player. In Boot Camp he waits 2 seconds before he says the name.

Time Up

In Boot Camp, when the time runs out in the shooting events, a red "TIME UP" sign appears below the timer. In some of the Combat School versions, this doesn't happen.

Mission

The text speed during the task screen is slower in the Japanese version when compared to the western versions. Also, if the player dies during a mission, in Combat School the music keeps playing. In Boot Camp the music stops immediately.

Revisional Differences

Konami re-released Combat School in Europe a year later with some control changes.

Title Screen

The year of the release was changed from "1987" to "1988".

Controls

The original releases use a trackball to perform different actions on each event, such as running, moving the player and its gun reticle, and to raise the strength bar the arm wrestling event. Other actions, such as jumping, firing, and attacking are assigned to the two buttons. The re-release version replaced the trackball with a joystick, which is now only used to move the character and its gun reticle. Running has been assigned to the buttons. And to raise the strength bar in the arm wrestling event, you now have to press both buttons.
