Casual Birder

Developer: Diego Garcia[1] This game has unused areas. |
Casual Birder is a bird-watching themed RPG for the Panic Playdate.
Unused Areas
There are a multitude of unused rooms that exist within the game files but simply crash the game when loaded. These have the names room_B2
and roomm_home
(likely a typo made in development).
Two unused versions of the coffee shop exist. One simply crashes the game when loaded using hacks, but the other loads fine. This version has some NPCs missing or placed differently, but is otherwise the same as the final version.

Old Mag's house also has an unused variant, entitled sageShack_interior
. It seems to be identical to the final version, with the exception that the Old Mag NPC is not present.
Unused Graphics
This picture, titled birdCard
, appears to be a card image for the launcher to use upon first glance, but upon closer inspection, it does not match the 350x155 dimensions needed.
This other picture, named creditsPic2
and which shows the legendary bird, was evidently meant to be displayed during the credits, but goes unused as well.
Unused Text
Modo the Mover, whom you meet at the start of the game, has a couple lines of dialogue that are never meant to be seen:
- "I really shouldn't say this, but I am saying it. Just talk to me some more and we can really get this game going." (displays if he is interacted with before the cutscene ends)
- "The designer hasn't written anymore text for me yet... so I guess you can just explore." (displays if he is interacted with after he leaves the screen)
Gordon, on the mountain, also has a couple unused lines:
- "Weeeeeeeeeee!" (displays if he is interacted with while flying off the mountain)
- "Didn't I leave forever?" (displays after he is interacted with after he leaves the screen)
Noclip Function
While the game is running in the Playdate Simulator for debugging, pressing G on the computer keyboard will toggle the ability to walk through walls.
