Handheld games are a type of digital video game system that debuted in 1977 with Mattel Auto Race. Notable among these are the Game & Watch line and Tiger's numerous (usually licensed) games.
Due to advances in gaming since their introduction, they are hardly seen anymore outside of novelty retro devices or straight-up knockoffs with pirated games.
