A generic urban racing arcade, but with Mario Kart gameplay.

Unused Graphics

PlayStation 2

  • The PS2 version contains some graphics (some screens and memory card icon) for unreleased US version.
  • Other copyright and loading screens (located in the DATA directory). The US copyright image has an ESRB notice, but lacks the game title.
  • Screens with different Memory Card errors (located in the DATA/MC_N directory). The only difference between them and the used images is the game logo.
  • Unused memory card icon with City Racer logo.

GameCube

  • The GameCube version also has leftovers from unreleased EU version. Here presented banner for EU release.
  • Some early powerup icons (located in Data/Misc/PowerUps).

PC

  • The PC version contains title screens from PS2 (same unused US copyright image) and GameCube (same image as used in-game, but with reduced resolution) releases (located in Data/Sponsors).

Unused videos

  • The GameCube version contains intro (intro_eu.h4m from Data/Movies) from unreleased European release. This intro is the same, as in PlayStation 2 and PC versions.

Cut track

  • Tracks.cfg (located in Data/Tracks) from PlayStation 2 and GameCube versions mentioned 15 tracks. SPEC1 track is absent from any game release.
[SPEC1]
Day=Yes
Flag=Portugal.tga
NormalStr=1
MirrorStr=2
  • en_track.txt (located in Data/Menu) mentions this level as SPEC1 in console versions and as SPEC4 in PC release.

Platform Differences

UI

  • Console versions offer 3 save slots, which have names "The Good", "The Bad" and "The Ugly". However, these saves could be renamed.
  • Console versions in garage don't show required amount of points for unlocking cars and their class.
  • In the PlayStation 2 version, fading of the menu (after starting race) goes without dissapearing side black stripes.
  • In the console versions menu music stops playing after starting race.
  • The GameCube version hasn't option to restart race in race results menu.
  • The PC version uses another race countdown timer. While on console versions timer used texture with "1,2,3,go" text, PC version used video with this text being animated.

Tracks

  • Console version have only 13 tracks, when PC version contains 14. Additional track has in-game name "Sibiu, Transylvania" (located in Data/Tracks/Spec3).
  • en_track.txt (located in Data/Menu) also mentions this level in console versions

Name=Special 3
Mirror=Special 3M

Gameplay

  • In the PlayStation 2 version car doesn't become transparent after finishing race.
  • The PC version has option to save replays.

Sounds

  • The PC version stores sounds as separate files, when console releases have them in encrypted archive.
  • Music in PC version plays directly from CD (except menu theme) and can't be copied on hard drive.

Regional Differences

  • Australian, Polish and Russian PC versions are DRM-free, when European (which came earlier) PC releases used SafeDisc.
  • Australian and UK versions have 20 music tracks on disc (Track02 is unique for these releases), when European has only 19.

Russian version

  • Russian version doesn't contain music (except menu theme) on disc for some reason.
  • In en_hud.txt (located Data/Menu) strings 196-199 have incorrect translation (mentioned strings has the same logical mistake).

Here'a a string 196 for example, and it's russian to english translation.

English Russian Translation
196=Four more left!
196=Еще четверо вылетело!
196=Four more excluded!

Leftovers from Speed Challenge: Jacques Villeneuve's Racing Vision

  • All versions contains some files (configurations, memory card icon, textures and etc.) from Speed Challenge, and lots of strings in executable files.
