Introduction

As part of the Frogger 2 development backups, many CD backups of audio project files were included. Some of the CDs contained ready to play audio masters, but most were left as digital audio workstation project backups from the composer Andy Morris. In order to make them playable, they have been mastered with the original software and hardware as accurately as possible with the data provided and discovered. Special Thanks to Kabulent for putting in countless hours into accurately rendering the rest of the audio tracks.

Hardware & Software Used

The hardware and software were identified by examining the various project files' data and in cases comparing with already existing masters. A majority of instrumentation was performed on the E-MU Proteus 2000 and Yamaha EX5R synthesizers, which much of the earlier project files contained patch sets for. Alongside the hardware, DAWs and supplementary software were utilized as well throughout development:

  • Sound Blaster LIVE! PC audio card, also had a role in Soundfont playback
  • SeerSystems Reality, software synth as a supplement for General MIDI
  • Steinberg Cubase VST (in early development tracks)
  • Sonic Foundry ACID
  • eMagic Logic Audio Platinum (succeeding Cubase in later stages)
  • Propellerhead ReBirth RB-338
  • Various shareware VST plug-ins sourced from Future Music Magazine Issue #81 CD
  • Waves Native Power Pack Plug-in set

Due to the age and limitations of the software, a virtual machine was required to run some of the programs, as well as a modern DAW for recording some of the project files that were not mastered.
