An earlier version of the player's house. The fridge is missing, and the exit carpet is centered.

An early version of the player's room. It lacks the second bed, and most of the decoration, but does have an extra window and table. The latter ultimately made a comeback in later iterations of this map, albeit in a shrunken form, and without chairs.

Poké Mart

SHOP01.MAP

FS_01.MAP
PKMNGS-SpaceWorld97-PokeMart-Correct.png PKMNGS-SpaceWorld97-PokeMart.png SHOP01.MAP.png PKMNGS-Final-PokeMart.png

A smaller version of the Poké Mart that seems to match the size of the glitched Marts from the Spaceworld '97 demo. Evidently, this map stuck around well into the 1999 revamp, with this map being seen in prerelease material as late as April 1999. Nonetheless, by the Spaceworld '99 demo, it had been replaced with the final map, albeit with an unrefined tileset.

Trainers' School

TC_01.MAP
PokeGoldSource TRAINE02.MAP.png PokeGoldSpaceworld97 Old School.png PokemonGSC EarlsPokemonAcademy.png

An earlier version of the Trainers' School found in Old, a duplicate also found under TRAUNE02.MAP. It makes use of an earlier version of the school tileset, which lacks the tower elements found in the later Spaceworld '97 tileset. Lacks the bookshelf in the top left corner, but has extra shadows not present in any later version.

An early version of the variant used for Pokémon League buildings also exists as TRAINE01.MAP and TRAUNE01.MAP.

Old City's Gym

RE_01.MAP
Spaceworld '97
LE_01.MAP
PokeGoldSource RE 01.MAP.png GSDemoMap02-07.png

An early version of the Pokémon League building in Old, which also makes use of the early school tileset. Structurally similar to the Spaceworld '97 map, but much more linear, and with stairs instead of an entrance mat. This map is also smaller than the Spaceworld version.

Bill's House

PokeGoldSource MASAKI.MAP.png

MASAKI.MAP is an interesting little map that makes use of the updated Radio Tower blockset. Its name suggests it was meant to be Bill's house. In comparison, in the Spaceworld '97 demo, Bill's house is located in Old, and it uses a slightly tweaked version of the traditional interior map.

West Rocket Building

PokeGoldSource ROCKE W.MAP.png

ROCKE_W.MAP is a map that uses the Hideout blockset. Given the file names of the other hideouts, ROCKE_F.MAP (Font), and ROCKE_S1.MAP / ROCKE_S2.MAP (Stand), this map was likely meant for West. There were already plans in the '97 demo for there to be a Rocket takeover in West, so the devs may have considered to add a base there too.

Port

PokeGoldSource PORT MAP.png PokeGoldSource PORT MAP Corrected.png

PORT.MAP is a map that makes use of the "port" tileset, which is present in the Spaceworld '97 demo, but is not assigned to any map, used or not. The corresponding port blockset was updated when compared to its Generation I equivalent, though sadly parts of its tileset were accidentally overwritten with the overworld graphics. This port would have likely taken the player between West, High-Tech, and Font.

Magnet Train Station

Source Map Spaceworld '99 Final
PokeGoldSource STATION.MAP.png PokeSW99-TrainGoldenrod.png PokeGSFinal-TrainGoldenrod.png

An early version of what would become Goldenrod Station in the final game. Uses different floor tiling, and has trees for decoration. The back wall uses a gradient, similar to the Spaceworld '99 version. The file name for this map is the same as the final one: STATION.MAP.

Aquarium

2F PokeGoldSpaceworld97 HighTech Aquarium 2F.png PokeGoldSource Nihon HighTech Aquarium 2F.png
1F PokeGoldSpaceworld97 HighTech Aquarium 1F.png PokeGoldSource Nihon HighTech Aquarium 1F.png

AQA_1F.MAP and AQA_2F.MAP, which are for the aquarium in High-Tech, have some differences. For small changes, the stairs were moved from the bottom west corner to the northeastern corner of the map. As for the Lapras statue, it was replaced by one of a generic fisherman.

Dojo

Spaceworld '97 Source Map
KAKUTOU.MAP
PokeGoldSpaceworld97 NewType Dojo.png PokeGoldSource Nihon NewType Dojo.png

A later version of the dojo found in New Type. Its size was cut in half, and it features scrolls on the back wall behind where the tables were in Spaceworld '97. Said scrolls are exclusive to the updated interior tileset.

Game Corner

Spaceworld '97 Later
PKMNGS-SpaceWorld97-CeladonGameCorner-MainBuilding.png PokeGoldSource SLOT.MAP.png

A set of potted plants in the bottom-left corner have been removed. More notably, a set of ascending stairs has been added, which would have led to an area containing the Poker and Memory Match games.

Removed Interiors

VANISH.DMG contains a commented out flag for a cut interior map, known as T02R0202. The Pokémon League building in Old is known as T02R0201, which could mean that the School once occupied that slot, and this removed map was the original slot for the League building. This could be supported by the early Old Gym map featuring descending stairs, as well as the Trainer School building being missing in B-roll footage of Old City.
