North American release
The North American release of Formula 1 contains some notable changes, including removal of the language select screen and the censorship of alcohol sponsors.
Language Selection
The European release allows players to choose a language before starting the game. America gets no such choice and is treated to a brief loading screen instead.

Censored alcohol sponsors
The alcohol sponsors are completely censored in the North American release, something that would be extended to all later releases of future Psygnosis Formula One titles. This can be seen in full force at Monaco where Fosters, Campari and Kremlyovskaya all have logos scattered around the track.

Japanese release
The Japanese release is largely identical to the initial European release, with only a few differences and higher framerate.
Language Selection
Like in the European release, the game starts with a Language select screen. However only Japanese and English commentary tracks can be selected. The cheat codes which allow the player to switch languages before a race begins have also been dummied out with the exception of TOROTORO (Spanish) which enables the Japanese commentary.

The Japanese commentary track also feature dual commentators, which would become standard for all languages in Formula 1 97.
