Fortnite: Save the World (Windows, Mac OS X)/Unused Ingredients

From The Cutting Room Floor
Jump to navigation Jump to search

This is a sub-page of Fortnite: Save the World (Windows, Mac OS X).

Save The World has a number of unused crafting ingredients. These crafting ingredients range from unused tiers of ore and mechanical parts, to entire standalone crafting ingredients.

Interestingly, some of these unused ingredients are still obtainable, though they are scarce. During old alpha tests of the game, participating players were sometimes given things such as banners, heroes, schematics, and crafting resources as a 'thank you' from the team. Some of these crafting resources were ultimately never used in any crafting schematics, nor made to be obtainable in any other way, leaving players with completely unusable resources.

Crytals and Ores

There are several unused crystals and ores. These include:

  • Rainbow Crystal

These crystals were likely planned to be used for Tier 6 crafting, after Sunbeam Crystals.

  • Moonglow Crystal

This crystal was likely an older version of the Shadowshard Crystal, used in Tier 4 crafting. This is due to the fact that it shares the same icon and textures as the Shadowshard Crystal. In earlier builds of Fortnite, it was yellow instead.

  • Spectrolite Ore

This ore was likely planned to be used for tier 6 crafting, after Brightcore Ore.

  • Iron Ore

Iron Ore is an unused resource that is not currently present in the files of Fortnite: Save the World. It is possible that it is an early version of Silver Ore.

(EDITOR’S NOTE: I cannot find a source for this thing’s existence anywhere besides here, so I’m not sure if it is real or not, however, the icon is the same size as other crafting resource icons, and has similar lighting and style to other crafting resources too. I will try my hardest to find another source that can validate this thing’s existence, but for now, just take this one with a grain of salt.)

Other Tier-based Ingredients

  • Spectral Twine

Spectral Twine would have been the twine used for Tier 6 crafting.

  • Vindertech Mechanical Parts

Vindertech Mechanical Parts would have been the mechanical parts used for Tier 6 crafting.

Ingredients That Are Not Tier-based

Save the World has a number of crafting resources that are not tier-based, such as planks, rough ore, rotating gizmos, and more. These resources were supposed to function the same way.

  • Honey

Honey would have been found when destroying beehives and searching plants. It was used in early versions of the Healing Pad crafting recipe.

  • Blue Mushroom

Blue Mushrooms would have been used to craft "consumable items with energizing properties." It also would have been found in caves.

  • Pink Mushroom

Pink mushrooms would have been used to craft "consumable buffs." They could be found growing on trees and walls. The "buffs" that they would have been able to create are unknown.

  • Red Mushroom

Red mushrooms would have been used to craft "consumables with healing and strengthening properties." They would have been found in forests.

  • White Mushroom

White mushrooms would have been "used to enhance the strength of consumable items." They would have been found in mountains.

  • Yellow Mushroom

Yellow mushrooms would have been "valued for its veried properties when combined with other ingredients." It is unknown what this is exactly referencing. They would have been found on the ground.

Interestingly, for all of the mushroom resources, there are searchable objects of similar style to these mushrooms. There are searchable white mushrooms that can be found in high places, blue mushrooms can be found in underground sections, etc. Presently, when these objects are searched, they only grant the player Fibrous Herbs and either a Corn or Mushroom consumable item.

Other Oddities

There are multiple meshes and textures that go unused and can be found in files containing data for other Save the World crafting resources. We can assume that these were going to be associated with crafting resources at some point, but ended up being scrapped before they could be finished.

  • Loot_Box_Cylinder

This was likely another form of loot that bosses and rare chests could drop, as the model for Loot_Box_Pyramid (the schematic cache) can also be found in the same file. They also have similar styles to each other, and similar naming schemes.

  • Car Battery

There is a mesh for a car battery found in these files. It uses solid color placeholder textures, and a placeholder normal texture. It is unknown what it may have been used for, but the most popular theory suggests it might be a remnant of a time where batteries were made to also be tier-based resources.

  • test

There is a texture called "test" in the files containing the textures for other crafting resources. It's a monochrome image full of wavy lines and contains some random insects. It is unknown what this would have been used for.
