Kid Kool tells the story of a king who is ill, and in order to save him a boy named Kool, with the help of a little red creature named Wicky, needs to find seven magical herbs before he dies. There are multiple endings based on how fast you complete the game.

While the game is often viewed rather negatively nowadays, it did manage to spawn two much more highly regarded semi-sequels.

The main character was originally Kenji Sagara, a japanese child actor who was famous for his impersonation of Japanese baseball player Masayuki Kakefu. Since he was unfamiliar to western audiences, his sprites were changed for the US release, removing his signature cap in exchange for a more gnarly hairstyle (though the small sprites used during the beginning of the cutscenes still show his cap) as well as his mouth on his running frames. In addition, a few missing pixels on the right eye of his "big" sprite were corrected.

Cast Roll

After the ending plays, the Japanese version has a cast roll right before the staff credits. Strangely enough, the cast roll was removed from the US version, but the staff credits were left in.
