Hmmm...
To do:
  • Document more of the debug menus and label controls for each menu.
  • Check if the demo mode in the debug menu is used at all.
  • Enable the old debug menu located at RAM address: 0x0014BDF8 (USA).

Okage: Shadow King is about a boy whose shadow is taken over by the devilish Stan, an evil king who takes the boy on a journey to defeat other evil kings, regain his powers and take over the world.

Unused Ending Cutscene

A cutscene of the Vampire Evil King keeping watch over Highland Village intended for the ending sequence of the game. Instead of this scene being played, the Vampire Evil King is located off-screen during the scene where Epros performs magic tricks with the Sewer Evil King.

Unused Final Boss Phase?

Presumably an unfinished additional phase of the final boss fight with Beiloune, the final battle ID that can be loaded in the debug menu is a selection of random enemies and an animated model of Beiloune in his non-monster form, a form never actually fought in the final release. He hovers above the battlefield, unable to be targeted in any way.

BABERN

In the battle models folder on the disc, one battle model exists for BABERN, which is the mysterious warrior that Rosalyn encounters in the ending sequence (who is subsequently flattened by Big Bull.) Based on the naming scheme between the Japanese and North American releases of the game, it seems likely that BABERN is Babahn, a Hero's Club member mentioned exactly once by Rosalyn early in the game (along with another unseen member named Henry.)

This model has no animations for using abilities, which means it was almost definitely meant to be an enemy or Evil King at some point, rather than a party member. This would have been the only human character fought in the game (excluding Beiloune.)

Early Overdrive Animation

An unfinished version of the animation for Ari's Overdrive ability is present in an earlier Ari model file located in the Japanese version of the disc.

Debug Menus

A couple of large debug menus remain in the game. To enable them, apply the below code and press the following buttons while you have control over the player:

  • L3 for STG Editor. Press Select to disable it.
  • R3 for main debug menu.
