Pikmin (GameCube)/Unused Textures
This is a sub-page of Pikmin (GameCube).
This page or section needs more images. There's a whole lotta words here, but not enough pictures. Please fix this. Specifically: Actually get images of the test maps' textures in here. |

Early Impact Site Map
Textures for an early map of The Impact Site are loaded in memory when on said area. By stitching them together, it's possible to see what the area looked like in development. While it shares the same general layout of the final map, there are also several big differences.
- The platform that normally has the 20 seed pellets is almost entirely gone. There's still an outline of the platform's slope, so this area may have simply not been finished at that point.
- The two stumps near the ship have no slopes present.
- The onions' "landing pad" textures aren't present.
- Oddly, the area where the Pikmin would push a box has differing sizes between where it starts out and where it would go.
- The lake seems to be entirely absent.
Bomb-rock Textures
Textures for all maturities of Blue and Red Pikmin holding bomb-rocks, something only Yellow Pikmin could do in the final game. Interesting enough, you can make these graphics appear via hacks, (making Blue and Red Pikmin having the Yellow Pikmin abilities.)
Moon Texture
A moon texture. This was originally intended to appear on the clock at night, replacing the sun icon.
Unused Olimar's Log Textures
In the final game, Olimar can write log entries on several of the enemies he encounters, but the Swooping Snitchbug and Water Dumple logs appear to have been cut. Despite this, the textures for his drawings remain on the disc.
play_4 Stump Texture
play_4 has a large textured tree stump, but most of its texture goes unmapped. The full thing reveals an entire arena around the stump, and a corridor connecting to another room.
2d_data Folder
The "2d_data" folder in the dataDir directory contains a subfolder named "karltexs", which contains the following .txe and .bti images.
"red.txe" appears to be damaged, but removing its alpha channels restores it.
Early Banners
There are two unused or early GameCube BIOS banners in the files that includes: one which wasn’t in opening.bnr (file which contains the game icons and banners from GC and Wii games), and it was on another folder, called: "banner&icons" which contains a very early version of the banner, which there's no Pikmin in. The banner is just titled as "PIKMIN", and the second is the same Pikmin renders seen in Challenge Mode.

The Early version, shows a group of Blue, Red and Yellow Pikmin walking, while the other icon shows a close-up of Yellow Pikmin's face.
The Final version has curious Pikmins looking at something, and another icon shows Olimar's face.
