Lt. Willis (Hero M48 Patton Tank)

Lieutenant Willis (the Hero M48 Tank) uses the same lines as the Grunt M48 Tank despite having his own lines, which unfortunately go unused, probably due to a programming error:

Sound File Quote
"Fire those shells, son!"
"Send our greetings to Charlie!"
"Let 'em rock!"
"Fire! Fire! Fire!"
"Stop the engines, I see a trap."
"Willis to Command, trap detected."
"Patton... will detonate!"
"How could you let this happen sir?!"
"This is hell on Earth!"
"VC down!"
"Our next target sir!"
"No one can stop our tank!"
"Firepower is on our side!"
"Patton crew is on a roll!"
"The US Army is the best!"
"Should we engage them?"
"Track down our foes, sir!"
"How'd you like to get your hand crushed by the gears?"

"Motors at full capacity, sir!"
"My M48 is a rolling thunder!"
"Willis is arriving on sight!"
"Willis reporting to you sir!"
"Should we proceed, sir?"
"Motors are rolling, ready to do our duty!"

Attack Lines

In addition to this, all lines of every single unit have lines that are meant to be heard when given the order to attack an enemy, hence the "At" in the filename, which are never heard in-game:

Evers
"Spraying the bullets!"
Evers
"Advance on the enemy!"
Evers
"Let those M60s spit!" The Evers files were actually identical to the "Engineer" files, both starting with the letter E, so a lower case R was added immediately after the E to differentiate them from the Engineer files to avoid overwriting them.

Hit Sounds

The VCs have a total of 12 voice clips used when they take hits, but due to a programming error of some sort, only the first 9 are heard, leaving the remaining 3 unused:

Sound File name Sound File Quote
Viet_hit10.mp2
"Exposed to cross-fire!"
Viet_hit11.mp2
"We’re in trouble, Commander."
Viet_hit12.mp2
"Let us pay them back!"

Death Sounds

While the US Rifleman squad uses one of only 3 death voice clips every time one of the soldiers in the squad dies, but there are actually 2 more unused voice clips in the files that are never heard in the game:

Sound File name Sound File Note
R_end4.mp2
The reason these 2 files are never utilized is due to the fact that they don't appear in the text file "Messages\speechkit.txt" doesn't have mention of the 2 unused voice clips, only the first 3 voice clips instead. They were probably cut because the developers may have thought that they sounded disgusting.
R_end5.mp2

Funny Sounds

While Lionsdale only says "What would Beth think about it?" when you click on his 3D portrait in the game, in the files he actually has 2. The other "Funny" voice line he has says "West Point is the best military school by a mile", but unfortunately, the "speechkit.txt" which should have that voice line audio file's name mentioned has "L_se5" instead, leaving the second "Funny" quote unused.

Levels

The following is the Speech files meant to be heard in the final levels, but for whatever reason are never heard.

Level 3

Character name File name Quote Note
Whitemore
"Everybody stop! These Paddy fields lead to the village, but there aren't enough palms or bushes to provide us with cover. If we continue, we're sure to be spotted. I suggest that we find another way to reach our destination.
Lionsdale
"Then move your asses and take it!"
Lionsdale
"God dammit! Nobody warned us that machine gunners watch over Hill 72! We've been ambushed!"
Whitemore
"Well, we didn't know about it either, Sargent. Take my advice though, in this war, you just better get used to it."
Lionsdale
"Good work team! Now let's play it safe and take a look around".
Narrator
"3 hours later..."
Lionsdale
"Here they come. Get ready."
Whitemore
"That's fine then, let's get this bird in the air!" From the unfiltered lines of Lt. Whitemore, it seems that Whitemore was originally supposed to be with Lionsdale and his men, but this was replaced with him being heard on Lionsdale's HQ radio in the final game.

Level 5

Character name File name Quote
Mitchells
"Don't worry, I can handle myself".

Level 6

Character name File name Quote Note
Whitemore
"Men, it seems that these installations are well defended. I think we should call in an artillery strike."
Whitemore
"It's too late now to get back to LZ-83J. Start getting the camp ready for tonight and tomorrow."
Whitemore
"I... just don't... have enough. Everything's fading... it's so dark... I... I just get some sleep... To-n' tomorrow we'll clear out those... need to sleep..." The file "M6_7_4.mp2" is only partially heard in the game. Due to the fact that the level ends prematurely, not only does the file not have a chance to finish playing, but the lines that are supposed to come after it are never heard.
Lionsdale
"We've gotta find out where those VCs came from. Maybe underground, let's look for a tunnel."
Lionsdale
"Now smoke 'em out!"
Grunt 1
"Fire in the hole!"
Grunt 2
"Fire in the hole!"
Lionsdale
"Sargent Martin speaking. We've lost our Lieutenant due to an unexpected firefight and we're stranded in the jungle. We haven't found any rice and it's getting dark. What are our orders?"
HQ Radio
"Stay where you are men, we're running with Plan B. You'll be going side-by-side with our South Vietnamese allies, they're sending in 2 rifle squads and you'll meet up with them at Waypoint 3. We'll also send in a Log Bird to the same location. Contact is set for 03:00. Stay under cover and get some sleep."

Level 9

Character name File name Quote Note
Lionsdale
"Coming to get you out."
Lionsdale
"Men, get into these vehicles, we'll try and get you back to the camp.
Lionsdale
"And let's get the hell outta here!"
Mitchells
"My God, a tank! This is bad, very bad!"
Willis
"That's what I call 'action'. This was as much fun as watching the Saturday night ball game on the cable, Yeah-hoo!"
Lionsdale
"Yeah, that was pretty impressive stuff. But the whole VC army must be on our heels. It was good to see you again Lieutenant, but for now, let's just get away from here." One probable reason why the last 2 unused quotes were cut is due to the fact that they seem to reference another mission featuring Willis that was cut from the game. Since this is the only level that Lt. Willis ever appears in, leaving them in would've confused players.

Level 12

Character name File name Quote Note
Mitchells
"I'll get him, you follow!" The level ends before the audio file "M15_9.mp2" ever has a chance to play.

Vehicle Sounds

Helicopters

An alternate sound file for the UH-1 Huey.

The sound for the unused CH47, NOT the UH1 Huey Helicopter that uses the CH47's model file in the 11th Mission "A Religious Task"!

Missing Audio

Vehicles

Although there are sound files that are in the files that just sit there unused, there's also mention in Information files of sound files that just don't exist. For example, vehicles (Both the US of A and Charlie) in the game only emanate sounds for their engines and those that have weapons have sounds for those too. Despite this, in their Information file, there's also mention of a "MotorIdleSoundFileName", a "StartSoundFileName", and a "StopSoundFileName". This indicates that all vehicles in the game have functions for sounds that were meant to be heard but were never added into the game.

Level 4

In the 4th Mission, after defeating the main VC assault on the bridge, a VC Mortar ambushes Lionsdale. While the text for Lionsdale's message still appears, there's no corresponding audio file for this. According to the file "Messages\messagekit.txt", the audio file would've been "m4_10.mp2", but unfortunately that file doesn't exist. It's not exactly clear why this file is missing, but it's either because the voice actor never recorded it or it was accidentally deleted from the file directory. Unfortunately, there's no way to restore this audio file.

[msg_m4_10]
"These VCs have established a mortar squad somewhere we recently passed through. We'll have to smoke them out!"
