Scrapped/Early Concept Scenes

Before the game was released, several images of the game were posted which show two crime scenes which were not included in the final game. Six of them show Miles Edgeworth examining a murder scene, with a map on the bottom screen seemingly indicating that the murder occurred next to Phoenix Wright's office, as the map matches up with one shown in Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney's second case, Turnabout Corner. The sprite used for Edgeworth on the bottom screen and in dialogue slightly differs from the final game's.

Another pre-release image exists that seems to show Edgeworth inside an air traffic control tower, with no map on the bottom screen. This may have been intended for an early version of Turnabout Airlines, the second case in the game, though that case takes place entirely on an airplane and not in an air traffic control tower.

With the release of the Ace Attorney Investigations Collection, concept art included in the game featured another look at the same scrapped crime scene and the air traffic control tower as an early 3D model! We also get to see Franziska von Karma, along with Pearl Fey, and Maggey Byrde, though it’s likely those sprites were included as placeholders or part of scene design.
Due to Maggey Byrde wearing her Trés Bien outfit in the crime scene, that means the case must have taken place before the cases Turnabout Airlines and Turnabout Visitors since in the latter she is a security guard in the prosecutor's building for quite some time.

Scrapped Character
Pearl Fey
As seen in a concept art that is included in Ace Attorney Investigations Collection Pearl Fey seemed to be an actual main character in the game. From the images it looks like she is following Miles Edgeworth on his investigations in a similar way she follows Phoenix Wright in the main series. She might have been considered as partner before she got replaced with Kay Faraday.
In the released game she only has a small cameo appearance in the background of a scene in the third case The Kidnapped Turnabout.
Maggey Byrde as Trés Bien Waitress
The same concept art shows a sprite of Maggey Byrde wearing her Trés Bien waitress outfit. In the released game she is only seen as a security guard of the prosecutor's building in the first case Turnabout Visitors.
Inukai Ruka

During a special event, the developers referenced a character named Inukai Ruka that was to be included in the game, but cut due to being considered too difficult to implement. Inukai Ruka was to be a dolphin trainer in an aquarium area of Gatewater Land in the third episode, The Kidnapped Turnabout. She would only open up to dolphins, meaning Edgeworth would have to somehow befriend her precious dolphin in order to get her to properly testify to what she had seen. The Ace Attorney Investigations Collection gallery included her concept sketches. Coincidentally, the Bonus Episode of Dual Destinies would later feature an orca trainer and her orca as suspects and major players in the case.
