Early Preview
General Differences
- The HUD always displays two digits.
- The life icon from the PS1 Crash games is used as a placeholder.
- The crate counter is animated, a feature not present in the final game.
- It also does not automatically pull up every time a crate is broken.
- The total crate tally uses a brown font.
- Enemies don't have proper death animations at this point - they seem to vanish when jumped on, and will not fly off the screen when spun.
- The physics seem to be bit off when interacting with crates.
- Aku Aku does not drop feathers when lost.
- Wumpa fruits appear to have some physics applied to them when dropped from crates.
- Checkpoint crates won't display the letters coming out when opened.
- Life is automatically added up when breaking the life crate, rather than dropping a life pickup.
- The life crate has a different mugshot.
- The Aku Aku icon in the crate is different.
- The crate sprites are different, more akin to their original PS1 textures.
Jungle Jam
- The lizard enemies are blue.
- Man-eating plants have a darker shade of purple.
- It's also facing the wrong side.
- Waterfalls are static.
- There is no exit pad at the end of the level.
- There are 17 crates in the level as opposed to 42.
Shipwrecked
- The surface of the water can be seen at the top at the start of the level, a la Crash Bandicoot: Warped.
- The submergible vehicle would have made a return, but was ultimately cut. Unlike its Warped counterpart, here it appears to have a drill attached to its tip.
Frostbite Cavern
- Ice physics are missing at this point, as well as Crash's skidding animation.
- The ? crate is empty.
- There are 13 crates in the level as opposed to 114.
Later Preview
General Differences
- Collecting a crystal won't play any sounds or effects.
- The life crate features a different mugshot.
- Life is automatically added up when breaking the life crate, rather than dropping a life pickup.
- The exit pad is gray and features a simpler design.
- No sound is played during the teleport animation either.
Jungle Jam
- The space theme plays here, likely as a placeholder.
- Waterfalls are static.
- The crystal is placed further higher up.
- There are 37 crates in the level as opposed to 42.
