The game originally was going to be on the Xbox, but was scrapped early on in development. This is evident on GameFAQ’s website, they still list it to this day.
Early screenshots from Neoseeker
These are early screenshots from the website Neoseeker, which is the earliest revision of the game, dating back to January 24, 2003.
Early Trailer
This is an early trailer for the game. It has a lot of numerous and strange differences compared to the final game.
- The logo was completely different.
- The build date can be seen. It's number 387 and from March 31st, 2003.
- Debug text is visible.
- The MAX text is not present.
- The number and text design is different.
- The performing trick HUD was very different.
- Nitrox 2 text always appears on screen. You have to fill up your boost meter in the final game for it to appear.
- The Nitrox 2 Activated text is different and in a different font. It lacks the 2.
- The ring collection icon is different.
- Vast Jungle had numerous tunnels and green colored ramps.
- Cars could go over 200 MPH in this build.
- The lap count sound effect wasn’t programmed in yet.
Desert Heat DVD and VHS special promotional messages
Another early trailer, this time from the Desert Heat DVD and VHS. This build is taken from March 31st 2003, 8 months before the final build.
- A lot of the maps are in an primitive state and lack detail. There are also no barriers and Flaming Wheels programmed in yet.
- An unused ruins map can be seen twice throughout the video. Main programmer Alastair Cornish said “during play testing, we found it to not be as fun as the other tracks, so we added elements from the ruins track and made the course Pyramid Run out of it.”
- Egyptian Dunes looks entirely different.
- Early car decals can be seen.
Later Commercial from an unknown date in 2003
This commercial was shown on television in 2003.
- Early ramp designs can be seen.
- There are some unused motion blur effects that are not in the final game.
