December 1997 Capcom Friendly Club

Rockman & Forte was first revealed at the Capcom Friendly Club event in December 1997, about four months from final:

  • The title screen has a registered trademark symbol, rather than a normal trademark symbol.
  • Dynamo Man's stage lacks a lot of the extra electrical details the final game has and the spikes are red instead of their usual gray color.
  • Cold Man's stage graphics were changed significantly in the final game; the prototype background is blue (rather than the final's... pink) and has a much simpler design, lacking the overhead clouds, having more natural building designs, and overall looking less drab than the final game. Ladders use a more mechanical design than the final, and the foreground has a more orange appearance.
  • After the first platforming section, instead of two Monopellans, there is instead a Batton M64 generator and Rabbiton.
  • The area just above it was changed; the two spots housing life capsules that could be obtained with Magic Card are filled in in the early footage, and the ledge was shortened in the final. In general, pickups seem to be absent from all stages in the footage.
  • The layout for the area shortly after the Cold Man miniboss is rather different in the early footage, with Penpen EVs instead of Dodonpa Cannons.
  • The wall crawler enemy in Ground Man's stage lacks any dust effects when leaving its hole, making it appear to "pop-in" suddenly.
  • At the beginning of Astro Man's stage, the platform housing the lonely Metall is slightly longer in the footage.
  • Later on in Astro Man's stage, during the notorious area where enemies appear from the background, the footage shows both a different color palette for this area (purple ground and dark green background, rather than orange ground and dark blue background) and significantly easier platforming.
