This is a sub-page of Prerelease:The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.
| This article is a work in progress. ...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.
|
| This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion. Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article? |
| To do:
- Add all pre-release screenshots and images of Character renders.
- Some pre-release character renders sent to the press became the loading screens in the final game, and potentially have differences, as showcased below.
- Note all differences between screenshots between pre-release and the final.
|
The Characters
Early Renders
| To do:
- Add the rest of the early black background renders.
- Add more comparisons to other versions of similar renders
- Write a better description.
|
These renders are from some of the earliest periods of development, with many noticeable revisions being made between these renders and the final game. Notice the recurring black background image in most of these images.
One of the earliest promotional pictures made for Morrowind.
Notably features an Ordinator with a spear not found in the final release, as well as early Indoril armor which is similar to the armor in the Vivec mock-up screenshot.
A thumbnail of the early Indoril armor, complete with unused weapon concept. This appears to be a Halberd of the same design (and likely materials) as the spear in the previous image.
Please replace this thumbnail with the full sized image if you can find it.
A full frontal render of the Indoril armor at rest. In addition to the previous renders, this armor lines up with a lot of early Ordinator promo shots which can be seen on other sections of Morrowind's TCRF article.
Red Templar armor. This version has red sleeves covering the arms, and showcases Lion(?) Heraldry instead of the Moth Centerpiece The Sleeves are actually still in the final game and can be re enabled in the construction set by assigning the proper body part to them.

The specific Mohawk hairstyle shown here is not in the final game. However, it's possible it was the basis for the mohawk styles used in the final.

Near-Final Renders
| To do:
- Add more near final renders.
- Take note of any and all differences between these renders and the final release.
- Write a better description.
|
Some of the renders Bethesda released in the lead-up to Morrowind's release were quite close to how they would appear in the final game. While it's currently unknown when these renders were made, or if it was in the same batch as the early models shown above, the models nonetheless showcase fewer differences from their released counterparts.
Press Kit Renders and Wallpapers
| To do:
- Add the rest and compare to the final.
|
Loading Screens
| To do:
- Add descriptions.
- Compare the differences between the press kit and the final release.
|
Early versions of images that would become the loading screens in the final game were released to the press before Morrowind released. While the setup and layout of these images are identical in most aspects, there are still some small details to take note of, noticeably in the colors used on the models. Ironically, many of these early arts would wind up being the base for the Xbox version's exclusive Tip load screens. The most notable ones being the skeleton and the Hunger.
Hunger
The Hunger in the press kit is notably more saturated in color, with notable reddish hues that are absent from the final loading screen.

Skeleton
The Skeletons showcase some of the most drastic changes between prerelease wallpaper and in-game loading screen. The loading screen showcases more of the in-game textures of the skeletons, whereas the prerelease wallpaper has the drawn portions of the skeletons featured prominently. Notice the difference in the ribcage for the skeleton emerging out of the ground, as well as the differences in the group of skeletons standing to the left side of the image.

Daedroth
The Daedroth seems to actually have its final colors in the press kit's splash screen. Yet strangely, the one used in the final is using an earlier much more vibrant color set.
