This page details pre-release information and/or media for The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Despite being made as more or less an April Fool's gag and being relatively short, The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog spent about a year in development, with various ideas thrown around that ended up not making it in.

Development Timeline

2020

  • January - Katie Chrzanowski, the social media manager of the Sonic brand, begins brainstorming a Sonic project that would eventually end up becoming Murder.

2022

  • Late February/Early March - Chrzanowski assembles a team of Sega employees and collaborators on making something for April Fool's Day and various pitches are thrown around. The first pitch, a typical Victorian murder mystery party, is eventually chosen.
  • Late March - An internal pitch of the game is made and approved by Sega, thus beginning development on the game.
  • Unknown - Espio is considered to be a doctor; he is instead a poet in the final game. Cream and Charmy Bee are also considered for inclusion, but are scrapped due to their in-universe age.

2023

  • Late March - The game is completed.
  • March 31 - The game is released.
