Included in the September 2020 lot check leak was an unreleased monochrome Game Boy version of 10-Pin Bowling. The released game was only compatible with the Game Boy Color.

General Differences

  • The ball on the menu rotates differently.
  • Pressing any button advances the menu in the prototype, while the final only uses A.
  • Pressing A starts the throwing meter and pressing A again releases it. In the final, you are required to hold A until the marked section of the meter.
  • Pressing B during gameplay in the final version brings up the score card.
  • The credits scroll plays right before the menu, while the final version replaces the scroll with a single screen which appears after waiting on the menu:

Aside from the addition of color, a few lines were added to the star portion of Morning Star's splash screen.

Besides the additional detail, the title screen added a "TM" symbol.

The font was completely changed, the ampersand was removed, a snazzy border was added, and the copyright year was updated.

The text boxes' borders were squared off, and a third box was added to clarify what the player should do here.

Lines were added to the bowling lane, and the brackets used for the Speed meter were changed to a simpler column of square dots.

The score card had the unnecessary scoring column of the 10th frame removed (standard bowling only lets you bowl up to three strikes in the final frame), replaced the frame numbers with larger digits, and replaced the two "FINAL SCORE" designations with a pair of 10s.
