This page details one or more prototype versions of Cosmic Carnage.
This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion. Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article? |
Considering the game's rushed development, it's no surprise there isn't much cut content to be immediately found. Nevertheless, nine prototypes were found within Sega's QA archives.
September 6, 1994 prototype
This prototype is documented on Hidden Palace.
Of the prototypes found thus far, this is the least complete. It lacks much of the visual polish.
- The ROM's header is "Virtual Fight".

The title screen consists solely of the game's logo zooming in and out constantly.
- A character stage selection screen is present, with the stages being labelled either "Human" or "Alien".
- No CPU is implemented yet, so only 2 player mode is available.
- The game restarts after completing a fight.
September 21, 1994 prototype
This prototype is documented on Hidden Palace.
- Almanic's logo appears in this prototype, but would be gone a week later.
- The intro for Cosmic Carnage is now implemented, though it has some bits of ambiguity.
- The game also has a menu now, which is largely the same as the final game, but "OPTIONS" is just "OPTION" in this build.
- After completing a battle, the game restarts.
September 26th, 1994 prototype
This prototype is documented on Hidden Palace.
- The Japanese mode is being implemented now. Three of the aliens now become humans. However, the logo is incomplete and the story also has numerous errors in it.

Far out in the Galaxy... An unfortunate encounter occured in the world of naught and dead silence... Two experimental intergalactic spacecraft had warped out at the exactly same coordinate, which could happen by a chance of millions. Emergency alarm broke the cold sleep of four crews on both ship, but everything was too late before they learn the situation. Ships' navigation computer tried to carry out an evasive maneuver, but it came to nothing. Both ships were heavily damaged, and started drifting through an empty space side by side. According to the report from the drive control computer, the fusion reactor was damaged fatally, because of the accident. Engines are still in hyper drive mode, and high speed energy reaction process still continues. Enormous amount of energy trapped inside will reach the critical state, causing a huge explosion within a couple of hours for sure. To make the matters worse, only one small escape pod is left undamaged, that still is a miracle, considering the size of the accident. It means only one, out of eight will have a chance to survive. Now the Brawl Begins... |
In the distant Galaxy... A horrible disaster occured in the world of darkness and dead silence. Two experimental intergalactic spacecraft warped to the same coordinates; a one-in-a-million chance. An emergency alarm broke the cold sleep of four crew members on both ships, but they were helpless. Each ship's navigation computer tried to carry out an evasive maneuver, but it was too late. Both ships were heavily damaged, and began to drift through space, side by side. According to the report from the drive control computer, the fusion reactor was fatally damaged in the accident. With the engines still in hyper drive, the high speed energy reaction process continued. An enormous amount of energy began to build up inside the engines. Within a few hours, the ship would explode. To make matters worse, only one small escape pod survived; a miracle, considering the size of the accident. This time, only one will survive. And so the Brawl begins... |
- No ending is in place still. After defeating all of the enemies, the game restarts.
