Proto:Fantavision
This page details one or more prototype versions of Fantavision.
A demo of Fantavision featuring the game's first stage was given away as a promotional item at PlayStation Festival 2000. The demo's executable was built on February 1, 2000, ten days before the original Japanese release's build date.
To do: Comparison of anything else. I'll also see if I can dive into the game's files itself to sniff out any other differences. |

Graphical Differences
Main Menu
The main menu, outside of the Extras option being replaced by a video labeled under the Promotion option, was updated by the final game's release to specifically highlight the selected option in red.

In-Game UI
The score text was made smaller, the font for the 1UP and Top text on either side of the top of the screen was changed and the Starmine indicator was changed quite drastically between the two builds.

Opening FMV
Interestingly enough, even the opening FMV is slightly altered from the final release. The Fantavision title screen itself has text that says "Press Start", which was removed from the final Japanese build.

Hidden Developer Credits
Like the final game, this demo's executable has hidden developer credits for the programmers, although here, the copyright date for the game was still noted as 1999.

Promotional Video
Selecting Promotion in the main menu will show you a video explaining the basic game mechanics, featuring some game footage that clearly comes from a build of the game that's older than the demo.
