A prototype of Freedom Force dated December 29, 1987 was dumped from cartridge and released by Gaming Alexandria on December 5, 2021.

Interestingly, the back of the prototype cartridge has a store's "Defective - Used Item" label with the boxes for "Customer Abandoned (Not Purchased)" and "Other (Explain)" marked, with the given explanation being a handwritten "DEMO".

Unfortunately, this build doesn't seem to recognize the Zapper, making it impossible to get past the menu.

General Differences

  • Cutscenes and credits screens are missing entirely.
  • The game boots straight to the title screen, which also flashes longer than in the final.

The blonde girl in the ending has a different appearance, seemingly an intermediate step between her unused graphic in the final ROM and her used graphic from the final. The proto's graphic is stored at the same address as the used graphic is in the final.
