Startup Sequence

This version still uses the old DMA intro seen in GTA 3 on PS2.

Prototype

Main Menu

Before starting the game, we are given the option to choose the difficulty, highlighting that there are 3 difficulties compared to the 2 in the final version.

It seems like they already had a Bonus Features section planned at this point in development.

Unused Weapons & Pickups

  • Power-ups?

It seems like they originally wanted to add Power-ups to the game, or maybe it was just for very early testing.

Audio

Unused Music

In the game files in "AUDIO\PS2\MUSIC\" there are some unused audio files.

TEST1.VB

File dated February 24, 2002. Judging by the sound of it, it was possibly a main theme placeholder for the menu.

COMBAT1.VB

This audio is not used in the game, but based on its name, it should be used in combat. Curiously, in the PCSX2 console when starting the game, it shows a message that two audio files are missing from the CD, which are COMBAT.VB and COMBAT_A.VB, in the prototype they are named with numbers.

PCSX2-CONSOLE-MH-BETA-MISSING-AUDIO.png

COMBAT3.VB

Another variation of combat audio.

COMBAT4.VB

Another audio that according to its name is for combat. It sounds the same as the main menu theme of the prototype but at a faster tempo.

Unused Sound

In the same location in the files, there are also some unused sound files.

AMBLOOP.VB

A file that, as its name indicates, was probably used as an ambient sound effect in the early stages of development, is dated March 15, 2002.

EXECUTE1.VB

A sound file according to its name, for the executions, but in the prototype it is not used. It is repeated 4 times in the game files.

Born Again

Audio File Transcription
"Come on, Cash. if we work together on this we both get the big rewards, so get you shit together, I'll try to direct you as much as I can, but you're my guy on the ground, ok? it's up to you. You ready? Camera, action!"
Audio File Transcription
"These streets are being patrolled by gangs. They're scum, just like you, and they're here to hunt you down and cut you up. Remember: as far as the world's concerned you're dead already so don't hold back, it's them or you."
Audio File Transcription
"Hot damn, that's the spirit! Hot stuff, Cash, hot stuff, no wonder you were given the chair. Well, I'll be frank with you, we set that chump up to see if you had what it takes to be our leading man. A little audition, if you will. Hah hah hah."
Audio File Transcription
"From here on in we're gonna need some fighting skills to get through the action. We're talking toe-to-toe. I know you've got the balls, so just keep give me the best you've got and you'll deal with this pussy no problem."
Audio File Transcription
"Now take your time, Cash, I see a few Hoods around these vans. Sorry, I should explain. Each gang has their... well, let's just call it their thing. These guys call themselves "The Hoods", but none of that should bother you. As far as you're concerned, they're meat, ok? Ok, on you go."
Audio File Transcription
"Try reaching the abandoned shops up on the next floor, the stair is right over there. Oh, and give me some more of that cut-throat psycho action you illustrated so beautifully earlier. We're talking the "money shot", you with me?"
Audio File Transcription
"Ok, there are some more of these shitheads hanging around the exit. Give me some grade-A honest-to-god gore and you'll be buzzed through the door."
Audio File Transcription
"One of the little freaks is still running around. I told you, you get buzzed through the door when the action's in the can."
Audio File Transcription
"It's a WRAP!! Attaboy Cash, you're a natural, I swear to god you are! No time to hang around, time is money! Let’s see how you handle the next scene…"

Doorway Into Hell & Road to Ruin

Audio File Transcription
"Go through that building up ahead to get to the street."
Audio File Transcription
"That hunter is watching the stairs, lure him downstairs by hitting a wall, then wait in a safe zone."
Audio File Transcription
"This door is padlocked. You ever want to get outta here alive, you better find a way to bust that padlock!"
Audio File Transcription
"Okay Cash, nice going. Now head back and smash that padlock."
Audio File Transcription
"Okayyy, Put on a good show against this hooded fuck for me and it might help you outta here. Watch tho' this guy fights dirty."
Audio File Transcription
"Your doing really good Cash!, It's almost over. This is the entrance to the cellar, find it."

Doing Time

Audio File Transcription
"Ah welcome, the idea of this little game is for you to execute all the hunters looking for you, that's if they don't find you first."
Audio File Transcription
"Well done, you do still have some surprises left in you, make your way to the end of the cellblock, I have a few more for you."
Audio File Transcription
"If you wanna get out of here, you gonna have to lose that guy and then make your way along the top of the cells to the shower block."
Audio File Transcription
"If you wanna get in here, you gonna have to lose the attention of those hunters."
Audio File Transcription
"Get outta my fucking way."
Audio File Transcription
"Those fucking guys can't get all right."

Kill the Rabbit

Audio File Transcription
"Follow the White Rabbit! You're one ugly fuckin' Alice though!"
Audio File Transcription
"Get rid of that screw and get up to that room. The rabbit has left you a gift!"
Audio File Transcription
"A new meaning for death row! Get yourself up to that control room!"
Audio File Transcription
"Fine shooting! Head for the door below the control room!"
Audio File Transcription
"Watch those cells closely! Pick them all off!"
Audio File Transcription
"Almost there, get through this last section anyway you can!"
Audio File Transcription
"What can I say? You were a good leading man, the audience will love you... don't expect any royalty cheques where you're going though!"
Audio File Transcription
"You did well! Very well. But every film has an ending and this is yours."
Audio File Transcription
"Shit! The punk has survived the final cut! He gets me, he gets out! Get me some backup!"
Audio File Transcription
"What the fuck? Who messed with the light?"
