Proto:Minecraft: Java Edition/Pre-Classic/Minecraft
This is a sub-page of Proto:Minecraft: Java Edition/Pre-Classic.
This article is a work in progress. ...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes. |
This page or section needs more images. There's a whole lotta words here, but not enough pictures. Please fix this. |
This page sucks. If you could make it suck less, that would be awesome. Specifically: "TolerableDruid6 isn't good at wording things" -TolerableDruid6, 2019 |
When referring to Pre-Classic, "Minecraft" refers to 2 versions, "rd-160052" and "rd-161348".
Contents
rd-160052
rd-160052 is a pre-Classic version made on May 15, 2009, at 22:52 UTC. The original version has not been found but a slightly modified version is available in the launcher.
The game goes into full screen on start-up, but it is believed this is only in the launcher version, as later versions don't have this - full screen wouldn't return until Indev.
Differences from Previous Version
Some info may be guess-work as the previous sub-dev-stage, "MC: Order of the Stone", has quite a lot of unknown info.
Additions
- An actual, Classic-like, natural terrain gen (note: it is believed that this may have been implemented in Order of the Stone, but this is unknown).
- New blocks
- Dirt
- Stone
- Planks
- Grass and Cobblestone are no longer counted as one "solid block" and are now separate block IDs.
- Block types no longer depend on where they are placed in a world now: any block type can be placed freely.
- Because of this, loading a level.dat from an earlier version causes all blocks to turn into Stone.
- Human mobs can now be spawned on demand by pressing "G".
- Press number keys 1-4 to change the block type the player will place on left-click:
- 1 = Stone, 2 = Dirt, 3 = Cobblestone, 4 = Planks
- Grass can not be placed down by a player.
- When breaking blocks, block particles appear.
- A cross-hair in the middle of the screen.
Changes
- Dirt turns into grass when under light and when grass blocks are adjacent to the dirt block.
- Grass blocks revert to dirt when they are no longer under light, or when a block is placed on top of them.
- Lighting changed so areas with no light are slightly brighter.
- Grass blocks now have side and bottom textures, rather than the same texture on each side.
- Movement speed is decreased.
rd-161348
rd-161348 is a pre-Classic version made on May 16, 2009, at 11:48 UTC. The original version has not been found but a slightly modified version is available in the launcher.
The launcher version has the terrain.png file from 0.0.12a, meaning the textures match that version, however, these are not the original textures for this version.
Differences from rd-160052
Additions
- Sapling
- Press 6 to select it (5 oddly does not do anything)
- When not under light, if a Sapling is not placed on dirt or grass, it will disappear. It can be placed freely when under light, however.
Changes
- Crosshair texture changed to current texture.
- Block particles are now bill-boarded (meaning they face the player at all times).
- Changed planks texture.
- Changes to terrain gen:
- Added mountains and cliffs.
- The dirt layer under the grass now generates thicker.
Bug Fixes
- Fixed rendering glitch where the world became invisible at certain angles.
