Proto:Misericorde: Volume One
This page details one or more prototype versions of Misericorde: Volume One.
A demo covering the first six chapters of Volume One was made available to patrons of the official Patreon on July 30, 2021, then to the general public two weeks later on August 13 (via Steam and itch.io, though it has since been removed from the latter). It runs on the TyranoBuilder engine, whereas the final game uses Ren'Py.

This graphic, labeled demodemoinfocard, appears to be a leftover from a previous version of the demo, of which no further information is known.
Two variants of an animation labeled titlebg are stored with other video files in the demo, but aren't actually used on the title screen (or anywhere else, for that matter).

Character Sprites
All of Flora's, Katherine's, and Margaret's sprites are left-facing in the demo's files but were flipped to be right-facing in the final game. Additionally, from the demo to the final Flora's sprites were shrunk by about 15% and Katherine's face was redrawn:

The menu button displayed alongside dialogue in the demo is replaced by a text-based menu overlay in the final game.
The backlog, save/load screen, and settings menu all have unique full-screen background graphics in the demo, as well as a "back" button in a similar style to the menu button above; in the final game they instead use simplified mostly-blank backgrounds with a sidebar for additional menu options.

Used for the demo's credits sequence. Of particular note, this track was included on the 2021 Bandcamp album By Total Rebellion, which also features some songs that would later go on to be used in the Misericorde soundtrack proper.

On July 31, 2021, the demo was updated (with a separate patcher also available for players who had already downloaded the old version) to fix a minor script error in one of Superior's early dialogue lines:

While the allowances for potential additional chibis and for the non-sprite-using Hedwig and Catherine make sense, no reference to a character named "Baph" appears anywhere else in either the demo or final game.
