A prototype dated September 24, 1996, which predates the final Japanese version by three days.

Gameplay Differences

This prototype has a couple of bugs that were ironed out before the retail release:

  • It is possible to spam button inputs and consistently successfully obtain points. This allows you to complete the game with considerably more ease than the final version.
  • Sometimes, you will not fail the song when you reach "AWFUL".

File Differences

The following files differ from the final version:

  • S0/COMOD0.BIN
  • S1/COMOD1.BIN
  • S2/COMOD2.BIN
  • S3/COMOD3.BIN
  • S5/COMOD5.BIN
  • S6/COMOD6.BIN
  • S7/COMOD7.BIN
  • S7/STAGE7.XA1
    • The 5th of the 6 tracks differs from the final, but the differences appear to be extremely trivial and are unlikely to be audible to human ears.
  • S8/COMOD8.BIN
  • S8/XMOVIE8.STR
    • Credits movie, differences listed below
  • S9/COMOD9.BIN
  • SS/MOVIE3.STR
  • SCPS_180.02
    • Executable, named "PRR.BIN" in this build
  • SYSTEM.CNF
    • Trivial changes, only changed due to filename changes

In the credits, Joe Chin's last name is entirely lowercase, P.Fleaswallow is misspelled as "P.Freaswallow" (most likely due to a Japanese translation error between the L and the R), and Shun Umibe's first name is written as "Syun". The animated segments of the credits video seems to have been re-rerendered between the two builds, as the character movement and the "THE END" effect is timed very slightly differently between the two. Oddly, the PSP and PS4 versions seem to use a mix between the prototype and final version, as they correctly used "P.Fleaswallow", but Joe Chin's last name is lower case, and Shun Umibe's name is misspelt as "Syun".
