Proto:Pizza Tower/Grinch
This is a sub-page of Proto:Pizza Tower.
This demo was made for a race in the Pizza Tower Discord, where the first 3 people who would beat this would get one free month of the Patron Build Player role. The level in this demo is a very early version of Oregano Desert, but with snowman blocks that reset the game when touched, and overall a basic Christmas theme (mostly based on Grinch's ultimatum, hence the name).
This build is notably the only one to be released in a .rar file rather than a .zip file. This was to protect the build's contents behind a password, preventing players from starting the race before it began. The password for the file is "pizzabinch".
General Differences
- Peppino's palette is set to a Grinch-themed green and red by default.
- Peppino's grab is now present, but it can only be done by pressing the direction he's facing while at Mach 2 or 3. His shirt and hat will revert to white while doing the move due to the sprites not being recolored to support other palettes yet.
- Peppino's slap move has been removed, rendering the attack button useless.
- The controls are broken on controller, likely to make the race even harder than it already is.
Oregano Desert
Grinch Demo |
---|
2019-03-07 build |
- Pineacools were removed in the 2019-03-07 build and the ceiling was removed. Instead of going to the right of the screen to get to the next room, you instead open a door.
- Many shitposty Christmas assets have been placed all over the level.
- As mentioned before, snowman blocks that restart the game have been placed all over the level. There are also small Santa blocks, which are solid blocks that can either help avoid snowman blocks or act as obstacles.
- Some rooms have gifs of clips from Grinch's ultimatum covering part of the level, namely the "It's Claus!!!" scene and the scene where the main character turns into the Grinch.
- A few rooms have poorly-scaled down gifs of the Grinch dancing from Grinch's ultimatum placed around the room.
- The music is a looping portion of the background music from Grinch's ultimatum, namely the section where the Grinch dances (1:23 - 1:39). The audio file's metadata reveals that it was ripped from this YouTube video.
- This video shows a version of Oregano Desert very similar to the grinch demo one, just without the... grunch edits.
It shows that Oregano Desert did indeed have a completely different tileset at this point of development. All the grinch demo did is made it red. In the video oregano desert has a time limit just like the grinch demo, but it's 4:00 minutes instead of 3:00. This suggests that around this time oregano desert was supposed to have a time limit from the start of the level. This is not confirmed though.
Unused Rooms
Unfinished Mansion Level
Within the game files there is an early version of the mansion level from the later January build, although with many differences present:
- As can be seen, the level lacks tiles and a background.
- Objects like rails are not present because they have not been implemented yet.
- Additionally, enemies like Big Cheeses, Spit Cheeses and the Peasantos are also not present.
- The section where the player takes the key was a little different, as in addition to not including the cheese ball that falls from the ceiling, there are some Forknights present (Although curiously, the outlets that remove the transformation are present).
- There is an extra room, which is completely empty with only the key and the door to open it. It was likely removed as so to not disrupt the gameplay.
- The last room of this level had not been made yet, so entering the last door just crashes the game.
