This cactus is UNDER CONSTRUCTION
This article is a work in progress.
...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.
Hmmm...
To do:
Quite a few things.
  • Images, maybe rip the models?
  • Retake some of the images with the PlayStation 2 version rather than the GameCube one.
  • Comparisons, comparisons!
  • Possible more Urbz 2 leftovers?
Careful, you'll lose an eye.
This page or section needs more images.
There's a whole lotta words here, but not enough pictures. Please fix this.
Specifically: Article used to have Discord attachment links containing comparisons, but they're dead now (and I mean dead dead even after refreshing in Discord).
Title screen

In mid-2018, a listing on Ebay for a PlayStation 2 disc of the game dating to the 14th of August 2005 surfaced. The disc was later bought in July 2018, and a couple days later a download of the prototype appeared.

Photo of the prototype disc from the Ebay listing. The disc has, among other things, "Alpha 814" on the label.

Main Differences

  • Uses cheat codes from The Sims.
  • Pressing Select + L3 toggles the HUD.
  • Freeplay Mode is bugged. The houses cannot be checked since there are no families and bulldozing lots causes them to have a weird glitch in the road.
  • Story Mode starts at 1:00AM rather than 7:00AM.
  • The Team Photo is now changed to the final graphic.

Cinematics

Early Final
  • The intro video is an earlier version of the one from the final game. In Alpha 814, it's stored inside MOVIES.ARC named urbz_intro. In the final build it's been renamed to s2c_intro.
  • If you try to play freeplay, there are no families and if you create a family it won't have enough money to move into any of the lots. You are able to bulldoze the lots so they only cost $0, however this causes the lot to be *bugged and the floor to glitch into the road.
  • There are no thumbnails/icons for the options in CAS (like personality, fashion and body).
  • Some of the hairstyle thumbnails in CAS are in different colours compared to the final version.
  • The background outside of the window in CAS slightly changed.
  • The prototype starts at 1AM in the game's campaign whereas the final versions start at 7AM.

Unused Clothing

  • (check discussion)

Unused Objects

  • An unused painting.
  • Shrub object was slightly changed, in the final game the hedge actually uses the 'shrub' title and description.
