This is a sub-page of Proto:WWF No Mercy.

Careful, you'll lose an eye.
This page or section needs more images.
There's a whole lotta words here, but not enough pictures. Please fix this.

This build has an early, oddly-colored title screen, but still no company logos or opening scene.

Main Menu

Hmmm...
To do:
Some of the options have incorrect descriptions. Submenus have different backgrounds. Menu text like Multi Play, Single Play, and Commissioner is green in this build, the final has different colors for each mode.
  • The layout and presentation of the menus now resembles the final game. It's somewhat unfinished (like the TV in the background isn't yet animated)..
  • The Records mode is displayed, but can't be selected. As noted elsewhere, a screenshot of this scrapped submenu was shown in the game's instruction manual.
  • The No Mercy arena has a placeholder icon.
  • Various menu buttons use graphics from Virtual Pro Wrestling 2.
  • Royal Rumble is misspelled "Royal Ramble" in a few places (this typo remains in the final release, at the very top of the screen inside the Royal Rumble submenu). The mode's description still says it only supports up to 30 entrants.

Options Menu

  • Curiously, the match music can be chosen like Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 (this detail is also visible in the manual). In both WrestleMania 2000 and the final No Mercy, it can only be set to random or off.
  • Difficulty is misspelled "Difficalty", and random is "randam" (also seen elsewhere in the game).

Championship Mode

Hmmm...
To do:
The story cutscenes are broken. Add details like different names of the chapters.
  • The Light Heavyweight belt still has its pink strap from WrestleMania 2000 (unused in that game).
  • A mysterious, nonfunctional "Superstar" option appears.
  • This build reveals the storyline tying into the GBC game, was planned to have Austin and The Rock routes. Neither can be selected though.

Survival Mode

While entering Survival mode and selecting wrestlers will start a match, the mode's special rules aren't yet in place. In the final, only the player may choose their wrestler (the computer entrants appear in a semi-randomized order).

Wrestlers

Hmmm...
To do:
Add uploaded comparisons for music tracks that have differences from their final renditions. The build date may mean Right to Censor doesn't yet exist in this version.
  • The wrestlers now have portraits, but still no Titantrons. Their heights and weights are placeholders, some display as "error" or unknown.
  • Most alternate costume slots are just duplicates.
  • The Godfather doesn't yet have his Goodfather gimmick.
  • Big Show is available in this build.
  • Steven Richards is not present.
  • Rikishi is still referred to as Rikishi Phatu.
  • Terri is referred to as Terri Runnels.
  • Eddie Guerrero is named Eddy Guerrero, an alternate spelling he regularly used in other promotions (including AKI's previous WCW games).
  • D-Von Dudley is misspelled Dvon Dudley.
  • Lilian Garcia occupies The Kat's alternate costume slots (she didn't make the final roster).
  • The Hos have different outfits, and use Trish Stratus' portrait as a placeholder.
  • Ring entrances are full length, but have issues like clipping through the steps or ropes.

Themes

  • The Right to Censor theme is not present.
  • Multiple wrestler themes exist in this build which aren't included in the final version at all for various reasons. These include:
* Big (Big Show theme) - removed as Big Show himself was cut from the game.
* Dude Shack (Dude Love theme) - removed as Dude Love wasn't included. Likely replaced by Commissioner Mick Foley.
* Blood (The Brood theme) - removed as Gangrel, the only wrestler who still used this theme by the year 2000, was not made playable.
* Snow-Man (Al Snow theme) - briefly used during Al Snow's run as a heel. The final version uses his more famous "Scurry" theme, used while he was a babyface.
* Dojo (Kaientai theme) - Both TAKA Michinoku & Funaki use TAKA's solo theme in the final version.
* D-Generation X theme - this theme simply isn't used by any combination of D-Generation X stable members in the final version, as they all use their individual character gimmicks instead.
* Oh You Didn't Know? (New Age Outlaws theme) - while this theme is used in the final version, the version used in this build is an instrumental, while the final version has vocals added.
* Precious (Ivory theme) - Ivory uses "Original Theme 5" in the final version instead of her real life singles theme.
* Pretty Mean Sisters theme - both Terri & Jacqueline use "Original Theme 5" in the final version, despite their previous stable theme being used in this build.
* Too Much Mustard (The Kat theme) - The Kat uses "Original Theme 6" in the final version, despite her singles theme existing in this build.

Gameplay

Hmmm...
To do:
Gimmick matches like ladder matches, cage matches, and Royal Rumbles are broken.
  • The announce table can now be climbed.
  • The stage and backstage can now be visited.
  • Some types of weapons are invisible. They can be used to attack, or picked back up (with some luck).
  • The Attitude meters aren't yet finalized. They now look different from WrestleMania 2000, but still lack name labels (as seen in many pre-release screenshots).

Smackdown Mall

Hmmm...
To do:
Wrestler creation needs a lot more documenting. Many faces and other parts are unfinished, placeholder duplicates, or glitched. The stables have different names.
  • The Shop can be visited, but it appears nonfunctional. Most of the items are missing, and The Rock's model is used as a placeholder.
  • The Data option goes to a crude roster editor. While it lists 80 wrestlers in the game, slots 65-80 default to being duplicates of The Rock.
