Proto Red Brick Wall Final Red Brick Wall
When you will see it... ...that means your gamma is too high! (Insert Pink Floyd reference here) I think these bricks are really neat.

Both of the red brick wall textures (for shaded and unshaded) have an odd black line on the top and bottom in the Proto. Also, the unshaded wall has some slightly different shading in the Proto which its shaded version does not share. This was fixed in the final.

Mommy mommy i made a texture! Make it gray, it will be more metal. Shiny! Slightly less shiny!

The steel walls are very unfinished. Only rough details have been drawn, since these graphics had yet to be converted from EGA to VGA.

Similar to the regular steel walls above, only in the Proto, there's a sexy pinup calendar that was, unsurprisingly, removed in the final and replaced with such German as "Achtung!" and "Verboten!"

Very nitpicky, but the white spot in the lower-left corner has been darkened in the final.

Dark Blue = Gray Except when it isn't.

The shading is incomplete in the Proto, since it's still in EGA mode. The final makes it look a lot more nice.

Expect this grey dark blue a lot Or else Cubic Stones like the rooms Looks like most of the maps for the game.

The shading of the darker parts is a lot darker and also seems somewhat unfinished. Note that this style is still used in the title screen in the final version.

Silver Nazi Eagle! Too shiny to look grayscale! Swastika is supposed to be on white background. Dark red? Even better...

Here's a significant difference, the eagle artwork in the Proto looks like a metallic piece of art on the wall! The final gives it some much-needed color. The background of the painting also got some shading.

The Hitler portrait was given some much-needed detail in the final. However, given that the portrait does not also darken when viewed from an east-west direction, it seems to be that it's still a work in progress.

Same as the portrait on the wooden wall, just on a gray brick texture instead, complete with non-darkening portrait.

Another extremely nitpicky change: The center-right brick to the right of the flag has three extra light gray pixels in a triangle formation added to it in the final.

The Proto versions contains heavier outlining around the bricks of the archway, as well as some different shading compared to the final. The shading difference can mostly be seen on the right side of the eagle in both the lighter and darker versions.

Seriously... Someone has pretty big OCD in ID Software...

The overall shading of the bricks is a lot darker in the Proto version.

I don't see anything wrong... I still don't see the change...

A few of the bricks beside the long, center slab have some shading changes between the Proto and the final, interestingly enough.

Elevator is confused! Elevator fixed itself in its confusion!

The second elevator sprite had a little error where both the up and down arrows are lit up. This was rectified in the final version.

Proto Sky Final Sky

The sky is still a work in progress as it is very bare in details. The hills were replaced with grass.
