Worms2-Demo Title.png

One month after the release of the first demo, Team17 released a new demo on October 10th, 1997, which replaced the older one. This demo is further along in development, with a number of graphics and sounds changed to those in the final.

General Differences

  • The pause window does not display team victories, nor does it display the required number of victories.
  • The Handgun only fires three bullets instead of six, like in Worms: The Director's Cut.
  • The Petrol Bomb does not create a small crater when it explodes; it only releases flames. This is similar to its behaviour in Worms: The Director's Cut.
  • Weapons that tunnel through the terrain, such as the Kamikaze and Blow Torch, will not create an outline in the terrain.

Message Ticker

Elementary, my dear Cactus.
This needs some investigation.
Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page.
Specifically: There are certainly more changed/removed messages to be found in these demos. Someone will need to find a way to get into the game's script and look.

Just like in the previous demo, the message ticker at the top of the screen displays messages that would either be altered or, for whatever reason, removed from the final.

Audio Differences

Soundbank

The soundbank used in this demo is an early version of the Wacky soundbank. The final would use a handful of the recordings from this demo, and replace many others with new recordings.

Unused Sounds

This particular sample is named Surf.wav, suggesting this may have been intended for when worms skim across water from being launched. No file like this is present for any soundbank in the final, but curiously, the American soundbank has such a file in Worms Armageddon.

Sound Effects

Though many of the sound effects present in the first demo have been changed to the final versions, a few sound effects are still different from the final:

Filename Demo 1.1 Final
MineArm.wav
NukeAnthem.wav
PauseTick.wav

Some sound effects, such as the Super Sheep sound effects, PigeonCoo.wav, HolyDonkeyImpact.wav and HolyGrenadeImpact.wav, are still missing.
