This cactus is UNDER CONSTRUCTION
This article is a work in progress.
...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.

This page sucks.
If you could make it suck less, that would be awesome.

Q.U.B.E. is one of the first Portal-inspired puzzle games, where you need to manipulate colored cubes to progress. Originating as a student project, it's a pretty interesting and unique puzzle game.

Hmmm...
To do:

Unused Loading Video

There's unused video in "QUBE/UDKGame/Movies/loadingscreen.bik", which was supposed to be for a loading screen, but it never shows up in-game.

Early Sector Selection Buttons

Present in "QUBE/UDKGame/CockedPC/Startup.upk" are some different and very low-quality screenshots of different sectors, which was probably supposed to use for their buttons in sector selection menu, but was changed to higher-quality ones.

Notably, the Sector 4 screenshot was taken in a completely different place. The other screenshots are the same locations as their used counterparts, but with slightly altered details and a higher FOV.

Early Loading Image

According to file name "loadimage", there was a loading screen featuring one of the Sector 3 puzzles. But everything has different shading, so it seems that screenshot was taken in prototype builds.

Leftover Early Sector 3 Screenshot

There's just an file called "Screenshot". And its features a screenshot of pre-release version of Sector 3 with early design of purple cubes.

Early purple cubes was just two cubes wide, and had grey frames at top and bottom, also arrows are white color instead of black.

Unused Menu Background

There's unused menu background. They share same location, but unused version screenshot was taken at slightly different angle and almost totally faded in dark, also location is a little more destroyed here.

Early Music

There's still leftover prototype build music in Sector 1's files.

Early Cube Sounds

There are still some early versions of the colored cube sounds from the prototype builds, that were probably forgotten to be removed after the new sounds were produced.

Early Final
Blue cube pull up
Blue cube push down
Yellow cube

Note: In release Q.U.B.E., colored cubes have multiple sounds for activation/deactivation, which are chosen randomly. Here's pinned first variant of those sounds.

Early Door Sound

There's still leftover door opening sound from prototype builds. Interesting fact is that used in release door open/close sound is actually called "door_close.ogg", so it's possible that at some point prototype door opening sound was still in use, before being replaced by release door closing sound.

Prototype Release

There's also leftover prototype sound for door closing, supposed for use in Sector 6.

Other

There are some unknown to be used, something rotation and movement sounds. It's possible that it's also leftover from prototype builds.
