Hmmm...
To do:
  • Document versions 1.02, 1.03, 1.04, 1.08, and 1.09.2.
  • There's no rhyme or reason as to when images are placed and when they're not.

SRB2 Tournament 2003

This version is a multiplayer-only version of Sonic Robo Blast 2, made to test out the Master Server.

It was exclusively built for SAGE 2003, and it was the first version to include multiple weapons to the match mode, as well as being the first version in adding digital music.

It also added the Chaos game mode that was later removed in version 1.09.4.

(The name is a parody of Unreal Tournament.)

Final Demo 1.01

First released in June 2003, this version was intended to be the last demo before the final game came out.

Later, there was so many patches for Final Demo that in 2.0, the idea of "demos" would be scrapped. This demo included the only three finished zones that existed at that point - Greenflower, Techno Hill, and Castle Eggman.

This version added an intro based upon the Games Factory version's intro, the Special Stages were made easier, and emblems were added. Levels which could could only unlocked with emblems were also added.

These are:

  • Mario Koopa Blast (replacing Mario Goomba Blast)
  • Spring Hill Zone

Tails now had the ability to carry others around, and Super Sonic was also re-added in this version.

This version also added an alternative gameplay mode called "Adventure Mode". This mode gave Sonic the Light Dash and Homing Attack moves from Sonic Adventure 2, and Tails' flight could be controlled by just holding the jump button down, as in Sonic Adventure.

An unlockable stage called "SA Example Zone" was included to showcase the mode, with the developers intending to demonstrate how SRB2 could easily emulate official 3D Sonic games of the time, but purposely chose a more classic approach to gameplay. This was not communicated anywhere within the demo though, and ironically the mode ended up becoming very popular among the younger modding community.

Adventure Mode was later deleted in version 1.08.

SA Example Zone

The only level that you could use in that gamemode, based off Metal Harbor Zone from Sonic Adventure 2.

Zim (from the TV series Invader Zim) was added as a character, with a multiplayer Match Zone. (Both were removed in 1.09.4.)

Several multiplayer stages were also added.

Final Demo 1.02

Final Demo 1.03

Final Demo 1.04

Final Demo 1.08

This version was notable for adding SOC support in the game, that would be used in the code to this day, and would make the mods way more complex.

Sonic's speed thok ability was restricted to once per jump, and progress on proper sprites for Knuckles began.

Two experimental game modes were also added, named "Sonic Golf" and "Hockey" that were both were removed in 1.09.

Final Demo 1.09

This version added various things like the completion of Super Sonic's sprites, and an easter egg where you could play an unfinished version of Red Volcano Zone Act 1.

This version also added several multiplayer maps that originated from the Official Level Design Contest.

Final Demo 1.09.2

Final Demo 1.09.4

This update was huge for SRB2. It removed everything that would make the game look unprofessional (such as Zim, chaos gamemode and Zero Ring), but added a lots of things too, things such as map editing were made more extensive. Now you were able to save screenshots of the game at any time, Circuit stages were finished, and Mario Koopa Blast got finished too, and added a Hyper Sonic Easter egg (that was deleted in the next version) Map making was made more complex too, allowing people to make even better mods, this verion also added time attack and circuit game modes.
