NSS version?
Do version differences in the NSS (Nintendo Super System) version of SMW qualify for this page? Seeing as the NSS was basically a SNES shoved into an arcade cabinet with some slightly tweaked versions of the games, it could be considered a separate version (as opposed to a re-release, like SMAS+W or SMA2).
For the record, the changes are (off the top of my head):
- Instead of a file menu, you get to choose which world to start from.
- No Start+Select level escape.
- The message box in the YI4 sublevel that mentions the Start+Select trick has been removed for obvious reasons. I made a program to compare the levels of the SNES and NSS ROMs and this was the only change it found.
Finding the exact changes can be tricky as the ROM has been reassembled, causing routines to be moved slightly and making a naive comparison of the ROMs useless due to all the repointing.

European versions
The European SMW had two different versions (1.0 and 1.1). Based on some highly scientific studies (i.e. playing the two side by side for like two minutes), there seems to be some differences between them, most notably that 1.0 appears to letterbox the game to pad out the 16 extra scanlines while 1.1 instead fills the whole screen. This makes me wonder what other changes one might find between the two. Would anyone mind doing some more digging? --Smallhacker (talk) 21:26, 24 July 2015 (EDT)
Grass Tile Changed in PAL 1.1
isofrieze/rgme apparently pointed this out 3 years ago but posted a new explanation recently.
apparently the grass metatile used in castle level intros was modified for the second pal revision in order to prevent the background showing through the bottom of the screen.
