Keroppi analysis
Just gonna put this on the talk page, since I don't really know how else to describe it. I was trying to research as to why Keroppi's face is in the graphic data (as I just found). At first, I figured it was just padding or something; but the more I look into it, it seems more like it's an...inside joke?
While doing a final double-check to make sure I wasn't missing something, I came across this page; which reveals that entering "SNIMRA", "SNIMURA", "NIMRA", and "NIMURA" on the high score screen will result in either "KEROKERO" or "KEROPPI!" appearing instead. Furthermore, entering "KAERU" will show "S.NIMRA". On another page, I saw that the programmer's name - at least in the credits screen - is "Nimura Kaeru" (二村かえる). Kaeru literally means "frog", though his first initial supposedly being an "S" implies to me that it's a...nickname, I guess? But I'm really not sure.
The final thing, however, is that I searched for other games credited to "二村かえる". I saw that Emeraldia (another Namco arcade game) is another title he worked on...and sure enough, the same Keroppi graphic is in that game's font data too. So I doubt there's actual Sanrio affiliation here; but I'm at a loss for the rest. Maybe it's a "Kumagaya Easter Egg" of sorts, but with no way to actually enable it in-game
Apologies for the infodump, but this is one of those things where I don't know how I could explain it shortly in the actual article...
