DPCM sample Oddity?

Having repeatedly listened to the Wario's Woods (US) NSF rip, I noticed the DPCM channel is used for a couple music tracks, supposedly for additional percussion. Yet all that is heard is a very short noise. No drum sample or anything. Examples are the two tracks for "Wario's Turn". The soundtrack for the EU version also uses the DPCM channel, but only at the start of a song.

I haven't seen any mention about this online, and it has been puzzling me for years. So here's my question to what's probably very trivial and pointless; is this intended, or a result of any real drum samples not being included in the ROM? Surely I'm not the only one who's been noticing this... ConkerGuru (talk) 22:50, 13 January 2024 (UTC)
