22nd April, 2022 - Salmon Run Trailer

Trailer Details

The fourth trailer for Splatoon 3, showing a full game of Turf War on Eeltail Alley, followed by the reveal of the 9th September release date. The build used in this trailer is likely dated close to Version 1.0.0, if not Version 1.0.0 itself. Interestingly, this trailer shows a massive departure from the original stage design and shader design seen in the Return of the Mammalians trailer. Based on a job interview sent out by Nintendo and testfield data left in the previous game, it's likely that a shift in development ideology happened here, and additional developers were brought on in order to modify the maps before release.

Multiple new things were revealed, such as:

  • The brand-new Angle Shooter sub-weapon, which was fully revealed in a Twitter post afterwards.
  • Various weapon kits for some weapons, such as the Splattershot Pro. (which ended up with Angle Shooter + Crab Tank.)

Differences and Oddities

  • The replay "camera toggle" icon in the top left of the screen was split into two icons in the final, with the replay icon that kept the original pink color and the "camera toggle" icon was changed to be more orange in the final game.
  • The Angle Shooter seems to have a slightly modified trail, which was changed to be more visible in the final game.
  • Angle Shooter's icon was sized up in the final version.
  • The shading in the victory screen is very different to the final game, and seems to be unfinished. Interestingly, various differences appear here aswell:
    • The Tri-Stringer's Flip Out pose has the string broken, with only the strings attached to the handle pulling back. However, this does NOT appear in the thumbnail for the trailer, for some reason.
    • The Splattershot and Octobrush's Flip Out poses seem to be using an earlier version of the animation, with the Splattershot being held out farther from the player and the Octobrush being positioned differently. The original Flip Out poses for the Shooter and Brush class can be seen in the early fist bump animations, with the animation itself starting on that early pose. The Octobrush's pose interestingly uses the final version of the animation in the thumbnail, similar to the Tri-Stringer's pose.
    • The design of the gold medal uses a yellow colored stylized inkling, instead of the detailed gold colored icon present in the final game.
