See, this is why game preservation is important.
This game is defunct.
Do note the game no longer works at all without modifications. This is most likely due to the game's servers being shut down. As a result, further official developments with the game are unlikely to happen.
Hmmm...
To do:
figure out exactly who published this game. capcom definitely had a hand in its creation, so i'm leaving them as a publisher. determine which regions it released in outside of mainland china, if any.

Monster Hunter Online was the second Monster Hunter MMO, developed by Tencent and released exclusively in China. It included many of the monsters from its sister game, Monster Hunter Frontier, as well as a selection of new beasties to make coats out of. The game was shut down at the end of 2019, after only a little more than 3 years.

Unused Monsters

Unused Monster em032

Hmmm...
To do:
Determine exactly which weapons and armor are assigned to em032. Really scour the rest of the data to see if there are no other references to this creature

Every weapon and armor that can be made out of materials from a given monster is marked with the ID number (emXXX) of that monster. em032 is used for some equipment, however there is no model or texture for the monster itself. The monster may have been removed, but its items were kept.

Kirin Relative em046

Hmmm...
To do:
fix this render. it sucks. apparently there's more related to this guy

A darker and much more horselike creature than Kirin itself. Its horn is a separate model from its body It doesn't share its base ID with Kirin (em035), which indicates that it may not be a direct variation of Kirin. Alternatively, it's a Lone Species Kirin that's just in the wrong ID number. Was probably scrapped at Capcom's behest.

Its model, textures, armor, and weapons all continue to exist.

em059

Hmmm...
To do:
probably get a comparison image put together between Dyuragaua's, Barioth's, and this unused eye

The folder that would contain em059's graphics only contains a single eye texture, along with its normal and specular maps and devoid of a model to be used on. Truly incredible stuff.

The sclera around the eye is recolored and used for Dyuragaua, the monster immediately preceding it (em058) A recolored version of this exact eye is later used for Barioth (em090), but it's unclear if this specific eyeball is ever used on a monster.

Breeding Season Hypnocatrice em078

Hypnocatrice's Variant from Frontier, Breeding Season Hypnocatrice, has its unchanged textures and model from Frontier at em078, which go unused. This makes Breeding Season Hypnocatrice the only version of the monster to not make it into Monster Hunter Online. Strangely, it does not share its base ID with the original Hypnocatrice (em014)

In addition, the textures within the folder don't have any normal maps, unlike the above, making it likely that it was scrapped early. The second of the four textures is shown below for clarity

Fatalis em998

Hmmm...
To do:
Is this Fatalis model from another game, or is it original to MHO?

Five models of Fatalis that fit together. It has no texture associated with it, but it does have a skeleton. Fatalis' skeleton was used to create Monster Hunter Online's own Merphistophelin, though Fatalis itself is not present in MHO. This Fatalis model has much more sculpting than many other MHO monsters.

Unfinished Whale-like Model em999

At the very last possible ID, there's an untextured and rough whale-like monster. It has large amounts of sculpting on its body compared to most finalized MHO monsters. The inside of its mouth has a tongue modeled out. It is unclear what family this monster would have been in had it been finalized. It bears a slight resemblance to Tartaronis, a monster that did make it into Monster Hunter Online, though this unused model is much smaller.
