When this build was compiled, it also came bundled with plenty of early cutscene renders from animation studio Buildup. Every single cutscene is different one way or another. Some of them are so early they're made entirely of storyboard images! How 'bout that. Most of the early CGI cutscenes lack any sort of polish including lighting, particles, and other dramatic effects. There are no sound effects and lipsync is non-existent in them. Only the Hot Shot cutscene variants were included in this build, as you cannot play as the other characters.

Cutscenes

Atari Intro Screen

Build 3944's is missing the "Atari-to-Autobot" transformation visual, instead staying awkwardly static for a few moments.

Build 3944 Retail

Build 3944's Melbourne House FMV is actually not used, instead being replaced by an image. This image unfortunately did not make it into the retail build, instead being replaced by another FMV. This unused FMV is used in earlier Melbourne House-developed games such as Le Mans 24 Hours.

Attract Video

Build 3944's attract video is made mostly of storyboard visuals. A lot of stage select FMVs which are present in build 3944 are shown, however some notable pieces of gameplay are shown stemming from early builds.

  • Gameplay of Deep Amazon is shown, where Hot Shot is in front of the ruined temple approaching an Artillery Unit and some Light Units. Notably, the HUD is using an early version that shows up in a piece of pre-release footage.
  • The Light Units appear to be using an early texture, where they are gray with a green chest. This design also shows up in Extras menu content.
  • Gameplay of Pacific Island is also shown, where it's raining. The HUD is identical to the Deep Amazon gameplay, but with some coordinates in the bottom right. Hot Shot is seen being targeted by a sniper near the abandoned settlement, before performing some sort of moon jump over a hill and being attacked by a Heavy Unit and Medium Unit. There's no moon jump function in the retail game.

Intro Video

Build 3944's intro video is made of storyboard visuals once again and has an astounding two lines of retail dialogue from Megatron. Optimus Prime audibly struggles when he is choked by Megatron, which isn’t audible in the retail cutscene.

Build 3944 Retail

Amazon Intro

Has a different camera angle on the ruins. The Medium Grunt grabs his weapon differently, with the next scene lacking a proper transition to the next scene. The dropships use an earlier texture.

Build 3944 Retail

Amazon Boss Intro

The Heavy Unit uses a less detailed model and also has some pretty funky camera angles when zooming in on him. Once again, the dropship uses an earlier different texture.

Build 3944 Retail

Amazon End

Compared to retail, Optimus Prime uses a different effect upon exiting the warp gate, with Red Alert being absent from this sequence. The Autobots notably lack animations during their search for the Mini-Cons, choosing to stand still for a scene.

Build 3944 Retail

Antarctica

The Sentry Drone is missing the red scanning visual.

Build 3944 Retail

Antarctica Boss Intro

Starscream's "Prepare for extermination!" line is different. His entire face is also seen when he's boosting towards the camera rather than just his one eye.

Build 3944 Retail

Antarctica End

Starscream's wing blade is positioned differently, making it look like he was stabbed by it. His face is also more obscured by the snow.

Build 3944 Retail

Stage Select FMVs

These show up in HQ when choosing a level to warp into. While build 3944 only allows you to see Amazon and Antarctica's by default, changing certain functions inside the 0_DEFS.TMD file will allow you to see the other stage select FMVs. Alaska and Cybertron do not have stage selection FMV's, and will display a static video.

Amazon

Completely different angles are used for every shot.

Build 3944 Retail

Curiously, there is a video which shows off a very early Amazon, back when both the Amazon and Deep Amazon levels were merged into one level. Compared to other stage select FMVs, this video is very wide.

Antarctica

Overall, Antarctica's level select FMV has not changed significantly.

  • The first scene has a warpgate in the middle of the research center. The warpgate is also yellow. There's an early Sentry Drone model that flies around as well, but due to YouTube's compression this is rather hard to see. This Sentry Drone shows up in a piece of early footage and the scale chart in the Extras menu.
  • The second scene with the crashed plane is missing smoke.
  • The fourth scene is much more zoomed out.
  • The fifth scene is missing.
Build 3944 Retail

Deep Amazon

3944 only has two shots unlike retail, which has three. One pans through the forest while another pans upwards in front of the pyramid. The skybox is notably much more orange compared to retail.

Build 3944 Retail

Mid-Atlantic

The level takes place during the day rather than at night with rain. Build 3944's FMV focuses on the aircraft carrier itself instead of the archipelago. Retail completely lacks the aircraft carrier in the FMV, instead using gameplay footage from the post-boss version of the level.

Build 3944 Retail

Starship

The camera angles used in build 3944's Starship are identical to retail. However, the in-engine footage differs a fair bit.

  • The first scene has some missing textures, evident by the white blobs and rainbow lightshow going on. The dropship is also missing.
  • The second scene lacks any enemies. The glass on the floor is either missing, or the glass is not broken. The "operating table" is missing the large gray Light Unit and the electricity effect is different. The computer console-esque design behind the operating table is missing, evident by the lack of neon green lights.
  • The third scene and fourth scene are missing from 3944.
  • The fifth scene (third scene in build 3944) shows off the elevator door. Other than the lack of dropship, missing textures, and the general scene being a bit brighter, it's identical.
Build 3944 Retail

Pacific Island

Build 3944 shows off a much earlier version of Pacific Island, reflecting the concept art shown in retail's extras menu. Per the concept art, that would indicate the video is actually showing off Easter Island, back when Tidal Wave was the stage's boss fight. Easter Island's overall theme is similar to retail's Pacific Island, but the level design appears completely different. There does not appear to be a volcano present in this level.

Test Footage

There are wide screen and full height screen test videos. The videos initially play a slowed down version of Unicron's Medley from The Transformers: The Movie before shifting into some footage of Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones.

Wide Screen (PATTRACT.pss) Full Height (QATTRACT.pss)

Additionally, a temporary video with a Penny Arcade comic is present as nMissing.pss.
