Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines is a PC role-playing game released in 2004 by the now-defunct Troika Games, based on White Wolf's tabletop franchise. Like everything else they developed, it was rushed out the door before being properly completed.
There is a significant amount of unimplemented content available in the game's files. Some due to incompleteness, some due to poor quality, and others due to the rushed nature of the game. A fan-made unofficial patch has been created to re-implement much of this content.

Story Pitch
The Beckett's book item includes an early pitch for the game's story. This story pitch shares a lot of similarities to the final's story (i.e. the Ankaran Sarcophagus), yet has some differences, such as a character named "Jeremy MacNeil" (which may have been replaced by Nines Rodriguez) and a Tremere character named "Anastasz di Zagreb".
Every game of chess begins with one move. Your story begins on a rain-soaked evening, in a pay-by-the-hour motel just off the Sunset Strip. You are the bastard property of an anarch Lick, sired against the Traditions of the Kindred. Your fate was sealed before the (???)'s teeth ever punctured your neck. An outcast to both kine and Kindred, you wander the streets until you are hunted down and brought before the newly appointed Camarilla prince. The prince, holding only the most tenuous of authority in an anarch city like Los Angeles, is forced to hand down harsh judgment. Your sire is killed immediately. You are given a difficult ordeal to prove your worth. In chess, small moves start the game, but they are always the most important. From there, it's a stark, sinister ride through the shadowed warrens of Los Angeles, from the smoky, neon-cast rooms of the underground club scene to hidden vampire fortresses in the Hollywood hills. Along the way, a mystery begins to take shape involving the most powerful of Cainite society and other supernatural creatures. You don't know who to trust. Perhaps it is all an elaborate hoax created by the Malkavians, or a trap set by the Society of Leopold? And it seems that someone, or something, is helping you. Pushing you in certain directions. Or perhaps it is everything else that is being pushed around you. Chess masters can see many moves in advance. Some can play the whole game before it even begins. Welcome to the world of Vampire: Bloodlines A Camarilla prince has moved into LA, looking for a way to establish his authority. Having secretly negotiated an agreement, the Kuei-Jin have begun to perpetuate the myth that Jeremy MacNeil was not actually killed in the battle of Signal Hill and that he has returned to Los Angeles. At the same time, the Kuei-Jin have begun to commit vampiric crimes in the city, and are making it look as if MacNeil is doing them. All of this is to undermine the anarch's belief in their fallen leader, and to have them turn to the prince for their new leadership. The Kuei-Jin, unbeknownst to the prince, hope to use this situation to establish their own power in L.A., wiping out both the anarchs and the Camarilla. The PC, newly and illicitly Embraced, is shown mercy by the prince and is allowed to prove himself through an ordeal. After completing this, he begins to work for Anastasz di Zagreb, a Tremere justicar, sent by the Camarilla to investigate a report of diablerie. Strangely, the Ankaran Sarcophagus, a newly discovered ancient relic from Turkey, has "disappeared into thin air," stolen from the Museum of Natural History. The prince, worried about violations of the Masquerade (as well as the possible importance of the sarcophagus to the thieves, who he assumes are Kindred) has the PC begin to investigate the matter. The story begins to unfold. Half of the time the PC is working for the justicar (who knows nothing of the prince's machinations, but is beginning to suspect) gathering the 'evidence' against MacNeil, and the other half of the time he is looking into the Ankaran Sarcophagus. It is while the PC is investigating the sarcophagus that he eventually finds the clues that lead him to discover the connection between the prince and the Kuei-Jin, and allow for the final conflict, and resolution of the story. The assumption, presented in more detail in the following section, is that a very powerful vampire introduced the Ankaran Sarcophagus to the situation in LA. Seeing the possible implications of a power shift to the Kuei-Jin, he masterminds a plot to expose the connection between the prince and the Kuei-Jin, and neutralize them both.

Multiplayer Mode
The game was originally intended to ship with multiplayer features which never saw the light of day. After it became clear to the developers that such a feature would be impossible to prepare for the game's release, it was finalized single player only, with the intent to later implement the multiplayer features in a patch. The game sold poorly and the developer went bankrupt shortly thereafter. Plenty of code is left over from the early phases of multiplayer development. While little of it is completely functional, commands referencing multiplayer functions can be seen by enabling the console and pressing ~ tilde. Mods have been released to restore minimal functionality to the multiplayer component.

You need an Occult skill of at least
Animal Ken
Another unused skill that would have depicted behavior of animals towards the player.
Animals are instinctually repelled by the undead. This ability to helps soothe beasts, making them less apt to react negatively toward the vampire.
Animal Ken will make animals more tolerant of the vampire's presence.
Athletics
Another unused skill that would have increased the player's running speed, jumping feat, and throwing feat.
How well one has conditioned their body to run faster, jump higher, swim harder or throw farther.
Improves range and accuracy of jumping and throwing.
Feats
Jumping
Another unused feat used to set the jumping power of the player.
Throwing
A feat which according to rules.txt and rules_tables.txt would have increased throwing distance, lowered movement penalty while carrying items, and changed the throw arc.
Animal Friendship
Has a minor leftover in rules.txt which hints how it would have worked. 10 ranks which lowers a value in 3 different tiers. Rank would have been increased by Animal Ken and an unknown attribute.

Histories
To do: Separate all the functioning, commented out, and unfinished histories. |

Document all working histories, commented out ones (video game publisher), and ones only existing as references in other files like clandoc000.txt (Avid RPG Fan).
This is going to be a rabbithole with no end.
Stat Shufflers
Name | Description | Clan(s) | Genders(s) | Effect(s) | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Union Boss | You're a blue-collar success story, a self-made man of the people. The respect of your workers and the gratification of a job well done was all you ever wanted in return. So the kickbacks and extortion money was all icing. Swap the priority order of your attributes to Physical, Social, Mental. | Ventrue | Male | Changes attribute priority to (Physical, Social, Mental) | |
Teamster | You believe in collective bargaining to get justice for working families. And if that fails, there's collective wrench beatings. Swap the priority order of your attributes to Physical, Social, Mental. | None | Both | Changes attribute priority to (Physical, Social, Mental) | Due to lack of a defined clan the history does not actually show up. Most likely intentional as it's effect is identical to Union Boss, the entries are right next to each other in histories000.txt and the concepts share similarities. |
Cut-Rate Party Clown | It was just supposed to be until you put things back together after Evelyn left you. Here it is 3 years and 3,246 scotches later. Somehow you've kept this gig going without one repeat customer. Truly, America is the greatest nation on earth. Swap the priority order of your attributes to Physical, Mental, Social. | None | Male | Changes attribute priority to (Physical, Mental, Social) | |
Gymnast-turned-Stripper | Your entire childhood was spent either in school or at practice. Daddy was too busy to tell you there's no such thing as a professional gymnast. Juvenile Hall Disciplinarian | <NEEDS DESCRIPTION. REPORT THIS BUG ATTN: TJ PERILLO> | Nosferatu, Tremere, Ventrue | Both | Changes attribute priority to (Physical, Mental, Social) | Due to the clan line being commented out the history is rendered inaccessible even with the INI edit. |
True Brujah | Many blame the stereotype of the rebellious Brujah on Troile, the hot-blooded Methuselah whose progeny comprise the bulwark of modern Clan Brujah. You share no blood with Troile. As such, you are predisposed to learned idealism instead of belligerent iconoclasm. You swap the priority order of your attributes to Mental, Physical, Social. | Brujah | Both | Changes attribute priority to (Mental, Physical, Social) | |
Pagan | Your beliefs center on the Gnostic pantheon, and your kinship with nature is strong. Swap the priority order of your attributes to Mental, Physical, Social. | Gangrel | Male | Changes attribute priority to (Mental, Physical, Social) | |

Swap the priority order of your attributes to Mental, Physical, Social. | Gangrel | Female | Changes attribute priority to (Mental, Physical, Social) | |
Degenerate Gambler | You knew you shoulda laid the chalk. You were down. Down big. But you had to press it on a parlay with the over and caught bad beat on the hook. On the friggin' hook. So much for Vegas. You figured you'd slum it around L.A. til you could build a roll to get back in. And that's when you met her. . . Swap the priority order of your attributes to Mental, Physical, Social. | Malkavian, Ventrue | Male | Changes attribute priority to (Mental, Physical, Social) | |
Women's Prison Guard | You had always hoped it would be more like skinemax. If only. Swap the priority order of your attributes to Mental, Physical, Social | Malkavian | Female | Changes attribute priority to (Mental, Physical, Social) | |

Country Club Lothario | We're living in the age of soccer moms. And don't you know it. Yeah, hubby might pulling down 7 figures, but you got an empty day-planner and a grin that drops panties like putts on a par 3. Swap the priority order of your attributes to Social, Physical, Mental. | Toreador | Male | Changes attribute priority to (Social, Physical, Mental) | |
Southern Debutante | Mother would be so proud if she knew you were accepted into the *best* vampire clan around! Swap the priority order of your attributes to Social, Physical, Mental. | Toreador | Female | Changes attribute priority to (Social, Physical, Mental) | |

Swap the priority order of your attributes to Social, Physical, Mental. | Brujah | Male | Changes attribute priority to (Social, Physical, Mental) | |
Pharmaceutical Saleswoman | Some uptight types might say Fluoxetine for kids is over the line. Obviously, they have no idea what kind of profit margin those things pack. And have they spent time around kids? Please- they should put that stuff in baby formula. Swap the priority order of your attributes to Social, Physical, Mental. | Ventrue | Female | Changes attribute priority to (Social, Physical, Mental) | |
Voyeur Website Model | Maybe you weren't the prettiest girl in school, but you could still make dirty old men sit up and beg. And pay for it. Hey, it beats Taco Hell. Swap the priority order of your attributes to Social, Physical, Mental. | Brujah | Female | Changes attribute priority to (Social, Physical, Mental) | |
Inoffensively Nutty Weatherman | Your inane banter and masterful use of the awkward segue was the toast of Bumblefuck, Illinois. So you took it to the big leagues and, wouldn't ya know it? First skank you pick up at an airport bar goes and kills you. Swap the priority order of your attributes to Social, Mental, Physical. | Malkavian | Male | Changes attribute priority to (Social, Mental, Physical) | |

Common
Name | Description | Clan(s) | Genders(s) | Upside(s) | Downside(s) | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Ex-Cop | You were a great cop- until a meth head's knife glanced your spine and left you relegated to deskwork for the rest of your career. You start with 2 in Firearms, and 1 in Intimidation, but you may never raise your Stamina above 3. | Brujah | Both | Starting bonuses to Intimidation and Firearms. | Inability to raise Stamina above Level 3. | |
Perv | You love women. Good god almighty, do you love women. You love their bits n' you love their pieces. Mmmmmm yeah. They never really reciprocated your interest, but, well, fuck 'em. In undeath your suppressed appetites have reemerged- you gain extra blood when feeding on a human of the opposite sex. Unfortunately, undeath has done little for your personality. Your Subterfuge cannot be raised above 1. | Gangrel, Malkavian, Nosferatu | Male | Gain extra blood for feeding NPCs of the opposite sex. | Inability to raise Subterfuge above Level 1. | |
Slut | So you're a little boycrazy. And maybe you like to get guys' attention. And maybe you like to fool around. That don't mean people have the right to go talking about you and calling you names- They don't know you! In undeath your now-stunted sexual appetite has reemerged in a curious way; You more readily digest the fluids of the opposite sex, and therefore get gain extra blood when feeding on men. Unfortunately, having slept your way through life, you have a hard time learning its little lessons. You must spend more experience to raise your Mental Attributes. | Gangrel, Malkavian, Nosferatu, Toreador | Female | Gain extra blood for feeding NPCs of the opposite sex. | Increased cost to raise any Mental attribute. | |
Dropped on Head as a Baby | If you're gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough. As a kid you took a lot of abuse for that funny slope in your skull. Until you started fighting back. You have an amazing resilience to punishment, and start with two extra points of Stamina. You are, however, a bit slow. It costs more experience for you to raise any of your mental attributes. | Brujah, Gangrel, Nosferatu | Both | Starting bonus to Stamina. | Increased cost to raise any Mental attribute. | |
Glass Eye | It's true what they said. You shot your eye out. It was hard growing up with a creepy glass eye, but as an adult you learned to put it to work for you. There's something about your unnerving stare that makes people do what you say. You start with two points in Intimidation, but you also start with a Perception of 0. | Brujah, Nosferatu | Both | Starting bonus to Intimidation. | Starting penalty to Perception. | |
Long Foot, Little Foot | 'Don't help me!' Your dual deformities make life difficult, but you're one of those hard-luck, triumph-in-the-face-of-adversity stories that people gobble up. You can never raise your Dexterity above 1, but you start with an extra point in Humanity, Charisma, and Wits. | Malkavian | Both | Starting bonus to Humanity, Charisma, and Wits. | Dexterity can't be raised above 1. | |
Lowborn | Trash, rabble, scum - whatever you call it, you're the supernatural equivalent. You come from a long line of gutter-dwelling, bottom-feeding, undead riffraff. As such, you are predisposed to the dregs of humanity- you get extra blood when feeding on bums and hookers. Your unwashed legacy doesn't leave you much in the way of education however- it costs you more experience points to raise your Knowledge Abilities. | Brujah, Gangrel, Nosferatu | Both | Extra blood when feeding on "low lives" | Raising knowledge abilities cost more. | |
Runaway | Your old man was a bastard. You can say that now. It took years just to be able to mention him. You're making progress, but you still avoid confrontation, and you don't know if you'll ever be comfortable with being touched. You start with one rank of Stealth, but it costs more experience to raise your Brawl Ability. | Brujah, Gangrel, Malkavian, Toreador | Both | Start with rank of Stealth | Raising Brawl ability costs more. | |
Hard-Ass Chica | You were born into a neighborhood just outside of downtown L.A. It might as well been the Third World. And you were just one girl kicking and biting her way to survival. In the middle of famine and marauding victimizers, gang life was life. You start with a thrityeight, and one point in firearms. Your life in the streets hasn't left you with the greatest patience for instruction. You must spend more experience in order to raise your Knowledge Abilities. | Brujah, Gangrel | Female | Start with a firearm and a point in firearms. | Raising knowledge abilities costs more. | |
Highway Drifter | Between the small towns that dot the Midwest there's a lot of open space, a lot of long shadows, and a lot of room to disappear. You know, you've done it. And you may have helped some other people do it too. You start the game with a Knife and one point Melee, but you start with a Humanity score of 5. | Brujah, Gangrel, Nosferatu | Male | Start with a knife and a point in melee. | Start with a humanity score of 5 . | |
Burnout | Science has yet to prove the link between marijuana use and decreased mental capacity. You say you've always been a little slow, but that's just because you're so mellow. You start with 0 Wits, but are less prone to Frenzy. | Gangrel, Malkavian, Toreador | Male | Less prone to Frenzy | Start with 0 Wits | |
Cadaverous Flesh | Each manifestation of vampirism is unique. Yours, it turns out, carries an unfortunate deficiency. Your body wants to rot. It's nothing that can't be overcome, but it is a constant drain on you. Your body heals at a slower rate than normal, since it takes more energy to return your rotting flesh to peak condition. On the upside, your flesh is malleable. It costs you less experience to raise your Physical Attributes. Oh, and you start with a Charisma score of 0 because of the. . . peculiar odor. | Brujah, Malkavian, Nosferatu, Toreador, Tremere | Both | Costs less to raise Physical Attributes. | Start with a Charisma of 0. | |
Eerie Presence | Most vampires have no problem fitting in to mortal society. You don't know what it is, but you just can't pull it off. You're doing everything they're doing, but something about you seems to make humans uneasy. Sometimes, it seems like they can just sense you. You were a perfectly affable, intellectual human. So what gives? It costs less experience to raise your Mental attributes, but it costs you more experience to raise your Social Attributes and your Stealth Ability. | Gangrel, Malkavian, Nosferatu, Toreador, Tremere | Both | Costs less to raise Mental attributes. | Costs more to raise Social attributes and Stealth ability. | |
Deceptive Strength | You used to be quite clumsy, but the Embrace gave you unnatural reserves of physical power. You start with 0 Dexterity and 0 Perception, but when you use Blood Buff it lasts twice as long. | Gangrel, Toreador, Tremere, Ventrue | Both | Blood Buff lasts twice as long. | Start with 0 Dexterity and Perception | |
Rapacious Bloodlust | The Embrace brought out a mean streak in you. You're constantly fighting the urge to kill, even as your power to do so grows. You start with an extra point in Strength and Brawl, but you are more likely to frenzy. Your impatient demeanor makes stealth more difficult; it takes more experience to raise your Stealth ability. | Malkavian, Nosferatu, Toreador, Tremere | Both | Extra point in Strength and Brawl | More likely to Frenzy, raising Stealth costs more. |
Clan Specific
Name | Description | Clan(s) | Genders(s) | Upside(s) | Downside(s) | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Quickling | The Embrace made you feel lighter than air, a sensation that has yet to leave you. Celerity has a longer duration, but it costs you more experience to raise Potence. | Brujah | Both | Celerity lasts longer | Potence costs more to raise | |
Anti-Paladin | A bully in life, a tyrant in death. You were born into undeath with savage combat prowess and an inclination to use it. And when you do, it's a terrible sight to behold. It costs you fewer experience points to raise Presence, and you start with a point in melee. It costs you more to raise Celerity, however, and you start with one fewer humanity point. | Brujah | Both | Presence costs less to raise, extra point in melee | Celerity costs more to raise, start with one less humanity | |
Chupacabra | Rumor has it you are descended from the legendary Chupacabra- the blood-frenzied devil that has haunted the Mexican countryside for generations. The veracity of this dubious distinction is impossible to discern, but your feral instincts are strong. You start with one extra point in Protean. Unfortunately your purported progenitor may have left you with a deficiency as well- You may never raise your Fortitude Discipline above 3. | Gangrel | Male | Start with extra point in Protean | Cannot raise Fortitude above 3 | |
Beastmistress | Mortal creatures sense vampires as an abomination, outsiders to the natural order. Your presence however seems to pacify the animal spirit like a sickly sweet intoxicant. Your Animalism effects last longer and are more powerful, but you have difficulty maintaining any Protean effect for long. | Gangrel | Female | Start with extra point in Protean | Cannot raise Fortitude above 3 | |
Insectoid | Maybe it's the vague compulsion to spin a web, or when you catch yourself trying to use your imaginary feelers, but something tells you your Gangrel blood is exceptional. You are able to prolong the duration of both Protean and Fortitude. Unfortunately your nature is even further from human than the average Gangrel. You start with no points in the following: Wits, Charisma, Appearance, and Animalism. | Gangrel | Both | Fortitude and Protean last longer | Start with no points in Wits, Charisma, and Animalism | |
Anda Gangrel | Descendent of nomadic vampire warriors, you were bred for extreme trials of endurance. You start with Extra points in Stamina and Fortitude. Anda blood is not of this land however, and your spirit is not linked with the native fauna. You start with no points in Animalism, and Animalism costs you more experience to raise. | Gangrel | Both | Start with extra point in Stamina and Fortitude | Start with no points in Animalis, Animalism costs more to raise | |
Ninja! | You think you're a ninja. Kee-ai! You start with a point in Brawl and a point in Melee, but Firearms can never be raised above zero, as guns are anathema to your Code of the Silent Killer. Ducks too. Ducks are anathema too. | Malkavian | Both | Start with extra point in Brawl and Melee | Guns can't be raised above zero | |
Doomseer | The paralyzing fear of eternal death has an iron grip on you. Doom is just around the corner, for you, for everyone, you just know it. And you lack faith in your vampiric abilities. What's the use anyway? You don't trust Obfuscate to work and therefore cannot maintain the effect for very long- each level of Obfuscate has a shorter duration than normal. You are constantly on the lookout for danger however, and can maintain Auspex for twice as long as normal. | Malkavian | Both | Auspex lasts twice as long | Obfuscate has a shorter duration | |
Completely Batshit | The curse of the Clan Malkavian burns white hot in your veins. You are a brimming cauldron of lunacy. The effects of your Dementate are greater and last longer. It's difficult to wrap your wriggling brain around the concept of invisibility however, and you must spend more experience to raise you skill in Obfuscate. | Malkavian | Both | Dementation is more powerful and lasts longer | Obfuscate costs more to raise | |
Boogeyman | Humanity is a fascinating spectacle indeed. Everyone has wanted to be a fly on the wall at one time or another, but you were obsessed with the idea. As luck would have it, your Nosferatu progenitors all had a penchant for peeping as well. You come from a long line of gifted perverts, and your Obfuscate effects last longer. This preoccupation has weakened your bloodline in other respects; Your Potence starts at 0. | Nosferatu | Male | Obfuscate lasts longer | Potence starts at 0 | |
Cleopatra | There are fates worse than death. You know this. In life, you were an object of desire. Men wanted you, women wanted to be like you. You have been transformed into a cruel mockery of your former self. As someone acutely aware of how easy life is for the beautiful people, you have unique insight into the psychology of human and vampire alike. You start with one point in Subterfuge. Your intense desire to do nothing more than hide (forever) has given your Obfuscation powers a longer duration. You were never much of an animal lover, however, and it will cost you more experience to raise your Animalism discipline. | Nosferatu | Female | Obfuscate lasts longer | Animalism costs more to raise | |
Leatherface | Your rebirth as a hideous beast was a dream come true. The power is intoxicating. And now you're going to make them pay- all of them. You start with one point in Melee, and an extra point in Potence. You never felt much empathy for other living things, however, and now it will cost you more experience to buy Humanity points. | Nosferatu | Male | Extra point in Melee and Potence | Humanity costs more to raise | |
Shepherd of Vermin | Like a creature of urban legend you commune with pestilent scavengers and share their filthy domains. Your Animalism effects are more powerful and long-lasting. Your diseased blood has trouble sustaining Potence; all Potence durations are decreased. | Nosferatu | Both | Animalism lasts longer and is more powerful | Potence duration is shorter | |
Decadent Enchantress | Beautiful, bored, and sociopathic. You amuse yourself by testing the limits of your suitors' devotions, and you delight at the ruin they willfully suffer for your affections. You start with one extra point in Apperance and one in Subterfuge, but your Celerity has a shorter duration. | Toreador | Female | Start with an extra point in Appearance and Subterfuge | Celerity has a shorter duration | |
Beautiful Monster | You are ruled by your passions. And some of them ain't pretty. People find you absolutely mesmerizing. But you were always too self-absorbed to bother with normal human repartee. Your Presence effects last longer than other Toreador, but you start with a Wit of 0 and are more likely to Frenzy when things aren't going your way. | Toreador | Male | Presence lasts longer | Start with 0 Wits, More likely to frenzy | |
Uncanny Awareness | You swear to god you can see the future. Not years from now, or even next week, but moment-to-moment you always see what's coming. You are so acutely aware of your surroundings that you've been known to dodge bullets without looking. This ability is further manifest as a superior form of Auspex. You receive greater benefits from Auspex and can maintain its effects longer. Unfortunately, the sheer volume of information makes you more deliberate than most; it costs you more experience to raise your Celerity Discipline. | Toreador | Both | Auspex lasts longer and is more powerful | Celerity costs more to raise | |
Faelike | Your are a creature of delicate beauty and ephemeral grace. You seem more likely to have sprung from the pages of Spenser or Keats than Shelley or Stoker. Your Presence and Celerity have a greater duration, but you are a truly delicate being- it costs more experience to raise your Stamina, Strength, Firearms, and Intimidation. | Toreador | Both | Presence and Celerity last longer and are more powerful | Stamina, Strength, Firearms, and Intimidation cost more to raise | |
Infernal | Your forebears paid an awful price in their quest for power. The deal still holds, and you'll continue to pay for all eternity. Advancement in Thaumaturgy costs you less experience, but Auspex has half the duration, and you may never raise Dominate above 3. | Tremere | Both | Thaumaturgy costs less to raise | Auspex duration halved. Dominate cannot be raised above 3. | |
Dominatrix | You've always been persuasive, but as a Vampire few can deny your will. You start with one point in Subterfuge and your Dominate effects are stronger and last longer. As someone who is used to having others serve her, you must spend more experience to raise your Skills. | Ventrue | Female | Star with point in Subterfuge. Dominate stronger. | Skills takes more experience to raise. | |
Diabolic | In addition to the Beast Within, you struggle against an even darker force. You feel the pull of salvation and damnation in your every action. Your Presence has a greater duration, but you start with one less Humanity, and you are more likely to Frenzy | Ventrue | Both | |||
Cleaner | Not every Ventrue is afraid to get their hands dirty. Some problems need to be met head on, and occasionally matters are too delicate to sic the Gangrel on them. While your bloodline doesn't come from the sunny side of the Ventrue family tree, they've always been entrusted to take care of such problems. Your Fortitude has a greater duration, but it costs you more experience to raise Presence. | Ventrue | Male |

Occult Nut | Who would ever have thought that any of it could be real? You loved dark fantasies and considered yourself Occult-savvy. You start with a bonus to the Occult and gain a bonus to earning experience. Other Kindred find you disdainful and their reaction towards you is lowered. | All | Both | Start with bonus Occult points and gain bonus XP. | Lowered reaction from Kindred. | NPC reaction and the Occult skill were cut from the final game. |

Your attributes are prioritized differently, with Mental being the most important, then Physical, followed by Social. | Brujah | Both | Changes attribute priority to Mental, Physical, Social. | ||
Eco-Terrorist Hacker | You were a computer hacker expert dedicated to preserving the environment. Your sire was attracted to your dedication respect for nature. ZhaoReload.smd Is an animation of him reloading dual pistols.
There are thirdperson animations for hacking computers, picking locks, bomb placing and keypad hacking. These events only happen in first-person, even when you are in third-person mode.
User Interace
To do: All or nearly all of the textures for this early are in the files. Document. |
An early version of the game's UI appears as an Easter egg in the Santa Monica (Beachhouse) level. A television in the Beach House displays a screenshot from an early build of the game with an ankh-shaped health meter in the bottom left corner, an ammo meter in the bottom right, and blood points represented as a row of red drops across the top of the screen. This television also appears in the Hollywood (Internet Cafe) level.
To do: PICTURES. |
A submenu for thrown weapons. Can be made usable again by adding (bind "F5" "slot4") to confic.cfg.
Elizabeth Dane Map Marker
A "functional" map marker for the Elizabeth Dane can be enabled by typing (G.Dane_Open = 1) in the console. Missing entities required for level transitioning which causes it to crash.
Unused Levels
To do: Split this into a separate subpage? |

Hallowbrook Atrium
To do: The a picture of the real life atrium would be good to post since it would visualize how the models would have been used. |
Designed after the real life Bradbury building and later renamed to Hallowbrook. The internal map names still refer to it as the Bradbury building la_bradbury_2.bsp and la_bradbury_3.bsp. The first map la_bradbury_1.bsp is notably missing and most likely covered the roof and the atrium if left over models/textures and internal names are anything to go by.
test_jump
Referenced in rules.txt
(if you change these values, please update the test_jump map)
Bunker
To do: Document leftover textures. |
Only referenced in a few texture names.
E3 (Asian)
To do: Upload video of the demo to youtube. Document the many differences. Maybe split into pre-release? |
e3_chinese_1 is referenced in mapnames_localized.txt. Most likely the map used for E3 2004 demonstration.

E3_Combat is referenced in mapnames_localized.txt. Most likely the map used for E3 2004 demonstration.
Special( Boat )
Map name referenced in mapnames_localized.txt is sp_boat. Presumably an early version of the Elizabeth Dane map.
Special( Camwarehouse )
Map name referenced in mapnames_localized.txt is sp_camwarehouse. Unknown. Possibly the warehouse in Explosive Beginning as in Camarilla warehouse? Other options are limited as every other SP prefixed map is a part of the main quest.
Special( Smut )
Map name referenced in mapnames_localized.txt is sp_smut. Most likely an early version of Death Mask Productions' studio in Snuff Is Enough
Special( Lonewolf )
Map name referenced in mapnames_localized.txt is sp_lonewolf. Most likely an early version of the Venture tower level which most endings go through. The final cutscene of the "lone wolf" ending has it's animation files be called end_lonewolf.mdl and end_lonewolf_female.mdl, and the rubble in front of the Venture tower after the Sabbat attack is called lonewolf_rubble.mdl
Malkavian Maze
To do: Unless specific textures/models for these maps exist maybe remove this? A big chunk of unofficial patch additions weren't meant for Grout's manor. |
The Malkavian Maze was visible in beta screenshots.
Unused Santa Monica Areas
The Santa Monica bus stop maps mention a Smoke Shop and a Coffee Shop. These buildings are still in the game, but you can't enter them.
Revised Maps
To do: There's plenty of early screenshots for 2003 downtown with differences, but not much in-game. Maybe put into the pre-release page? |
Layouts were sketched for revised versions of Santa Monica, Downtown, Hollywood and Chinatown based on feedback from testers. The revised levels were more compact, and intended to be easier to navigate and easier to hunt in. Only the revised version of Santa Monica was completed in time for release. Beta videos and screenshots show several differently-looking hub level areas, probably exclusively made for the two E3 demos.
Unused Dialogue
Taxi Driver
The taxi driver in the game only says one line ("Where to?"). In the game files he has a total of 4 lines, 3 going unused.
Tutorial Guard
To do: Figure out how to best format the dialogue file. |
A full conversation exists for a security guard meant for the tutorial. dlg/downtown la/tutorial_security_guard.dlg
Elizabeth Dane Cop Conversation
To do: Check if anything is left. Unofficial patch adds in a conversation. |
The Elizabeth Dane has a few ambient conversations had by NPCs. copconversation2.wav and copconversation3.wav exist, but no copconversation1.wav
Elizabeth Dane Cop Addressing Player
To do: This info is from VTMBup-readme.txt Haven't confirmed these are the exact lines. |
Lines exist for the cop at the start of Elizabeth Dane attempting to get the players attention. hey_you_1.wav, hey_you_2.wav, hey_you_3.wav and not_who_i_thought.wav
Alternative Beach House Background Conversation
To do: Check which one is used. |
Two versions of a background conversation at the beach house exist. One with presumably developers doing placeholder VO and one more professional sounding. Scuffed sounding mikecarl.wav and the more professional mikecarlconversation1.wav
Regional Differences
The European release of Bloodlines has a slight alteration to the game's intro, making the camera cut from the sheriff executing your sire to the gathered crowd happen a little earlier. The rest of the game is uncensored.
Out of Bounds Oddities
To do: Upload pictures. |
Last Round
The last round's sign is visible from 3 maps la_abandoned_building_1, la_expipe_1 and la_hub_1. In la_abandoned_building_1 it shows the bar's original name Exhaust Pipe, which is still it's map file's name too and has five lights below it instead of 4. In la_expipe_1 it has extra details not visible in the hub.
Santa Monica Pier
The Santa Monica pier is visible from 4 different maps, sm_hub_1, sm_hub_2, sm_pier_1 and sm_beachhouse_1. Each version has some slight differences and evidence of cut content. Madame Liota's has unseen interior wall textures which The arcade was originally much bigger with a different layout. Some of the signs were different.
Santa Monica Hub
Between sm_hub_1 and sm_hub_2 there are some differences, such as the bus stops having another design in sm_hub_2 and the tunnel leading to Gimble's Prosthetics having different textures and no "Gimble's Prosthetics" sign.
Textures
To do:
|
Early Therese/Jeanette/Tourette
Early textures for entirely different UVs. The Jeanette model was reused as the first level armor for the female Malkavian with different textures. Therese's body was reused for the first armor of the female Ventrue, but with a different texture.
Early Nines Head
The body texture for Nines includes an unused face texture. Final model uses a seperate texture for the head.
Early Ocean House Ghost
An early placeholder for the Ocean House ghost which uses desaturated Tremere female textures. Textures identical apart from the face texture which lacks many details.
Early Smiling Jack
Different body texture which looks closer to the artstyle of the concept art. Head texture with different UVs.
Ming Xiao
An entirely different set of textures exist which match concept art. Seperated into multiple different textures as opposed to the final game. A long hair texture that matches the final textures. Used for a pre-release model with long hair.
Romero
Unused face texture

Weighting is wrong because it uses an earlier version of MDL
Miscellaneous
To do: Better categorizations probably exist for these things. Basically placeholders so I don't forget. |
Skyline Apartments Guard
The bottom floor has entities for npcs to do idle animations. A guard is placed, but is unable to spawn due to being inside a couch.
Nocturne Theater
In early screenshots the Nocturne theater is shown to have used the name Sunset theater. The sign textures are even named after sunset.
The gold brim model for the stage extends past walls by roughly half of the full model. Hinting that the theater had a different layout.
There is an inaccessible unlit and uncluttered room behind one of the doors. The handle for said door even has a parent set up in the masquarade death scene version of the theater.
