A Hat in Time (Windows, Mac OS X)/Version Differences/Model Revisions
This is a sub-page of A Hat in Time (Windows, Mac OS X)/Version Differences.
Several models were re-imported after the release of the game. The differences between the original and revised models can either be barely noticeable, or quite drastic.
General
Hat Kid's Head
Initial Release (July 18 2017) | Current (November 30 2018) |
---|---|
Hat Kid's face was touched up a bit, and the model slightly increased in polygon and vertex count. There was also a version imported on November 7 2017, which fixed an odd issue involving double eyes for Hat Kid, but otherwise looks identical to the model version used before it.
The original model's stats: 6196 Polygons, 3563 Vertices.
November 7 2017: 6194 Polygons, 3557 Vertices.
Current model: 6206 Polygons, 3599 Vertices.
Hat Kid's Hat
Initial Release (May 15 2017) | Current (January 6 2018) |
---|---|
Very small touch-ups were made to Hat Kid's hat, and it greatly increased in polygon and vertex count. The original model was 2054 polygons, and the new model is 2734 polygons. The reason for the increased polygons and vertices is the addition of the speedrun timer onto the hat, for people who participated in the Speedrun Event before the release of the game. Additionally, the hat model was re-imported on November 27 2017, and was then imported again on January 6 2018. The differences between the November version and January version are currently unknown, as they appear to be identical.
Ice Statue Hat Kid
Initial Release (July 20 2017) | Current (July 17 2018) |
---|---|
Hat Kid's pose completely changed when DLC 1 released, going from a more generic pose to making a peace sign.
Ice Panel
Initial Release (October 3 2014) | Current (July 24 2018) |
---|---|
The model for the Ice Panels seen throughout the game was updated for the release of DLC 1. Its hinges were made a darker blue, the ice on the edges is brighter, and the snow flake icon in the middle now has a subtle pulsing glow effect.
Air Bubble
Initial Release (August 7 2014) | Current (August 16 2018) |
---|---|
The original model for the air bubble being used in the final game was all the way back from the Beta builds. It has a more Wind Waker kind of look to it, being mostly transparent with a white outline and a shine on it. For DLC 1's release, the bubble was made bigger, it was given a smoother model, and a fancy new material was made for it as well.
Spaceship Hub
Kitchen Door
Initial Release (June 22 2016) | Current (June 13 2018) |
---|---|
The door leading to the kitchen room on the spaceship was greatly improved for the release of DLC 1. The door handle and rim of the window were made much smoother.
Basement Snow (Sand)
Initial Release (April 7 2016) | Current (July 27 2018) |
---|---|
This particular model for piles of snow in the basement of the spaceship, which was originally sand before Sand 'n Sails was scrapped and replaced with Alpine Skyline, was edited slightly for the release of DLC 1. The location for one of the smaller piles of snow was adjusted, and one tiny pile of snow was removed outright. The model now also has a snow material applied by default, instead of sand.
Battle of the Birds
Glasses Dispenser
Initial Release (July 30 2016) | Current (July 3 2018) |
---|---|
The model that holds sun glasses in the dispenser in Dead Bird Studio was edited for the release of DLC 1 to have the top modeled.
Subcon Forest
Snatcher's Book
Initial Release (November 28 2015) | Current (January 15 2018) |
---|---|
Snatcher's book was edited in early 2018 with a new UV map and a new texture.
Subcon Well Entrance Room
Initial Release (March 17 2014) | Current (July 18 2018) |
---|---|
The UVs of the model were adjusted a little bit, and the vertex count for the model dropped by almost 100.
Vanessa Snow Field Terrain
Initial Release (December 19 2013) | Current (January 20 2019) |
---|---|
For some reason, the snow field terrain model for the forest was re-imported in early 2019, being included with the release of DLC 2. The polygon count and vertex count remained the same, so differences are currently unknown. There were reports that it was re-imported with slight edits to attempt to fix a problem with the player would sometimes bonk on the terrain when diving on it. The model now also has a snow material applied by default.
Mafia Town
Bridge Model
Initial Release (September 21 2016) | Current (July 24 2018) |
---|---|
This bridge model received multiple revisions before the release of the game, and even after release, it got yet another one. The UVs on the model for the floor and railings were changed to make the textures tile a bit more.
Flowerbed Model
Initial Release (October 5 2016) | Current (July 24 2018) |

The model for flowerbeds in town got an overhaul for DLC 1, now using less textures and having the leaves now animate via a material shader.

The model for a paint can was updated to be slightly larger. Its polygon count increased slightly, and its vertex count decreased slightly.
Fire Hydrant Model
Initial Release (October 6 2016) | Current (July 25 2018) |
---|---|
The fire hydrants in Mafia Town were updated to use only a single texture instead of using two, and was made brighter overall. Polygon and vertex count remained the same.
Building Shadow Model
Initial Release (July 23 2017) | Current (October 5 2017) |
---|---|
A model that is used as a shadow for a particular building in Mafia Town was updated the day the game released, however, the very first version of the game released included an older version of its model, which does not look proper in-game.
Rocks
For some unknown reason, almost all of the rock models used in Mafia Town were re-imported after release, all with extremely minor tweaks. Why this was done is anyone's guess.
